Pressure is not a problem to be endured. It is a resource to be engineered.

The CryoCore represents a fundamental rethinking of what a vacuum pump should be in the modern HVAC/R workshop. Where commodity pumps treat evacuation as a waiting game — spin the motor, watch the gauge, hope the microns drop — this instrument treats it as a precision thermodynamic operation. The 180W single-stage rotary vane architecture is machined to tolerances that would be recognizable to a Swiss watchmaker: cylinder bore concentricity within 8 microns, rotor-to-stator clearance optimized for maximum volumetric efficiency without sacrificing ultimate vacuum depth. The result is a pump that pulls a 5 Pa ultimate vacuum — deep enough to boil moisture at ambient temperature, the true test of refrigeration-grade evacuation.

What separates a professional vacuum pump from a hobbyist unit is not the motor wattage printed on the label. It is the oil management system. The CryoCore employs a forced-feed lubrication circuit with an oversized oil reservoir that operates as both lubricant and thermal sink — the oil carries heat away from the compression chamber while simultaneously sealing the microscopic gap between rotor and stator. The gas ballast valve, often treated as an afterthought on budget pumps, is engineered here as a primary feature: open it during initial pull-down to purge moisture-laden vapor before it can emulsify with the oil, then close it for the deep-vacuum finish. This is the workflow that separates a system that holds vacuum for years from one that leaks refrigerant within months.

Evacuation is not a step in a procedure. It is the foundation upon which every refrigeration system stands or falls.

Key Features

  • ✦ 180W high-torque induction motor with thermal overload protection — sustained operation without duty-cycle anxiety
  • ✦ 5 Pa (0.05 mbar) ultimate vacuum — surpasses the 15 Pa threshold required for R-410A and R-32 systems
  • ✦ Forced-feed oil lubrication with anti-suck-back valve — prevents oil migration during power interruption
  • ✦ Integrated gas ballast with graduated control — stage moisture purge before deep-vacuum hold
  • ✦ Standard 1/4" and 3/8" SAE flare service ports with brass construction — chemical compatibility across R-22, R-134a, R-410A, R-32
  • ✦ Die-cast aluminum housing with vibration-dampening rubber feet — workshop durability meets transport portability
  • ✦ Sight glass oil level indicator — no guesswork, no overfilling, no starvation

Application Scenarios

The CryoCore is purpose-built for HVAC/R professionals who service residential and light commercial split systems, mini-split heat pumps, walk-in coolers, and automotive air conditioning. It is the daily driver for technicians who evacuate 2-5 systems per day — scenarios where pump reliability directly determines job profitability. In refrigeration research and teaching laboratories, the 5 Pa ultimate vacuum provides sufficient depth for demonstrating thermodynamic principles. For appliance repair shops handling refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and ice machines, the compact form factor and integrated carry handle make it the natural choice over bulkier 3-4 CFM units that offer speed without precision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What oil should I use with this vacuum pump?

A: Use ISO VG 68 or VG 100 vacuum pump oil specifically formulated for rotary vane pumps. Standard compressor oil lacks the low vapor pressure required for deep vacuum work — it will outgas and limit your ultimate vacuum depth. Change oil after every major evacuation or when it appears milky (indicating moisture contamination).

Q: Can this pump handle R-410A systems with POE oil?

A: Yes. The 5 Pa ultimate vacuum is well below the 500-micron (67 Pa) threshold required for POE oil systems. R-410A is hygroscopic — its POE lubricant absorbs moisture rapidly. The CryoCore gas ballast valve allows you to purge moisture during initial pull-down, protecting both the pump oil and the system from contamination.

Q: How does this compare to a two-stage pump?

A: A two-stage pump can achieve deeper ultimate vacuum (typically 0.3-1 Pa), but the practical difference for HVAC field service is negligible. The CryoCore 5 Pa rating is deep enough to boil water at 0C — the gold standard for field evacuation. The single-stage design means fewer moving parts, lower maintenance, and lighter weight — advantages that matter every day on the job.

Q: How long does evacuation take for a typical 3-ton split system?

A: With proper hoses (3/8" or larger ID, no manifold restriction), expect 20-35 minutes to reach sub-500 micron levels on a clean, dry system. Systems with known moisture contamination benefit from triple evacuation: pull to 1000 microns, break vacuum with nitrogen, pull to 500, break again, final pull to below 500. The gas ballast should be open during the first two pulls.

Q: Is this pump suitable for continuous operation?

A: The thermal overload protection allows for extended runs, but rotary vane pumps are not designed for 24/7 continuous operation like scroll or diaphragm pumps. For typical HVAC service (2-5 evacuations per day, 20-40 minutes each), the CryoCore operates well within its design envelope. Always allow the pump to cool between jobs.

Good pump, the gas ballast actually matters

Pump works well for what it is — a single-stage rotary vane. Got 520 microns on a mini-split that had been sitting open. The gas ballast is the real differentiator here because budget pumps at this size usually skip it or put in a useless tiny screw. This one actually purges moisture when you open it during pull-down. Only giving 4 stars because the included power cord is a bit short at 1.5m — you will want an extension cord for any outdoor unit install. Other than that, solid investment for a daily-driver pump.

Compact enough for the van, powerful enough for commercial

I run a mobile AC service and space in the van is always at a premium. My old 6 CFM pump took up half a shelf. The CryoCore fits where the old one never could, and honestly the 1.8 CFM is plenty for what I do — mostly residential splits and the occasional walk-in cooler. The carry handle is positioned right so it does not tip when you lift it one-handed. Oil changes are straightforward with the sight glass. Have used it on about 20 jobs now and it still pulls the same deep vacuum as day one.

Pulled 480 microns on a 5-ton split — first try

Been doing HVAC for 14 years and I have used every vacuum pump from JB to Yellow Jacket. This little unit surprised me. Hooked it up to a 5-ton R-410A system that had been open for two days during a coil swap. Gas ballast open for the first 10 minutes, closed it, and watched the micron gauge drop to 480 in about 35 minutes. Oil stayed clear the whole time, which tells me the ballast is actually doing its job. For the price, this is absurdly good. Only nitpick: the rubber feet could be slightly taller for better airflow under the pump body.
