A Cut Is Only as Accurate as the Line That Guides It. In the workshop, straightness is not an aesthetic preference — it is a mechanical prerequisite. Every joint, every edge, every finished surface begins with a reference line, and the quality of that line determines everything downstream. The True Line is a precision-machined aluminum alloy parallel guide rail system engineered to turn any circular saw or router into a panel-cutting instrument capable of repeatable sub-millimeter accuracy across a 1200mm span. It replaces the "eyeball and hope" method of following a pencil line with a rigid, clamped, geometrically verified track that the tool rides against — transforming freehand power tools into guided systems without the cost or floorspace of a dedicated panel saw.

The engineering challenge of a guide rail is deceptively simple: maintain a perfectly straight reference edge across 1.2 meters of extruded aluminum, in a form factor light enough to position and clamp by one person, yet rigid enough that mid-cut deflection is physically impossible. The True Line addresses this with a dual-rail extrusion profile that resists bending in both vertical and lateral axes. The sliding carriage rides along the rail on precision bearings, eliminating the friction and wobble that plague friction-fit guide attachments. An integrated slotting track on the underside accepts standard toggle clamps, securing the rail to the workpiece without the rail shifting during the cut — the #1 failure mode of entry-level guide rail systems.

For the cabinet shop producing kitchen carcasses, the True Line enables one-person handling of full 4×8 sheet goods — break down plywood into cabinet components with dead-straight edges that require minimal edge-jointing afterward. For the flooring installer, the rail makes rip cuts along walls dead-straight without the wandering that leaves gaps under baseboards. For the trim carpenter, the ability to set up a guided cut in under 30 seconds transforms on-site workflow — no more hauling a miter saw up three flights of stairs for a job that a circular saw and guide rail can handle faster. This is not a jig. It is a portable reference surface.

The difference between a straight cut and a perfect cut is measured in microns — and guided by aluminum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does this guide rail attach to my circular saw?

The sliding carriage includes an adapter plate that bolts to the base of most standard circular saws. The saw rides along the rail on precision bearings, maintaining a consistent offset from the rail edge. Setup involves mounting the adapter plate once (typically 4 bolts into existing baseplate holes), after which the saw can be quickly attached and detached from the rail.

Q: Can multiple rails be joined for longer cuts?

The rail system is designed for the 1200mm span. For ripping full 8-foot (2440mm) sheet goods, a longer dedicated track saw rail is recommended. The True Line excels at cross-cutting panels up to 1200mm wide — which covers the vast majority of cabinet carcass components and furniture parts.

Q: Will this work with my router for dados and grooves?

Yes — the sliding carriage is tool-agnostic. By mounting a router base to the adapter plate, you can run perfectly straight dados, grooves, and slots. This is especially valuable for shelving projects where stopped dados need to be dead-straight and consistent across multiple panels.

Q: How do I ensure the rail does not shift during a cut?

The underside slotting track accepts standard toggle clamps (not included) that secure the rail directly to the workpiece or workbench. Always clamp both ends of the rail for cuts longer than 600mm. For sheet goods, position the rail so the offcut side is supported to prevent binding. The anodized aluminum surface provides additional grip against the workpiece even before clamping.

Huge upgrade from a clamped straight edge

Upgraded from using a aluminum straight edge and clamps for guided cuts. The difference is night and day — the bearing carriage eliminates the friction and wandering that happens when you're just following an edge by hand. Setup time is much faster. The router capability is a bonus I didn't expect to use as much. Only reason for 4 stars: the adapter plate mounting requires some trial-and-error to get the offset perfect. Once dialed in, it's rock solid.

Perfect for on-site cabinet installation

As a kitchen installer, I'm constantly making final-fit cuts on site where bringing a table saw isn't practical. This guide rail with my cordless circular saw handles everything — filler strips, toe kicks, panel adjustments. The bearing carriage means consistent offset every single cut, no measuring and re-measuring. The anodized finish slides smoothly and doesn't mark the workpieces. Takes under a minute to set up and clamp. Best investment I've made this year for site work.

Cut quality rivals a sliding table saw

I was skeptical that a guide rail could replace a panel saw for breaking down sheet goods, but this system proved me wrong. The aluminum extrusion is dead straight — I checked with a Starrett straightedge and couldn't find deviation. Mounted my Makita circular saw to the carriage and cut 18mm birch ply with edges clean enough for immediate edge-banding. The bearing-guided slide action is smooth and the clamping track on the underside prevents any shift during cuts. This has changed my workshop workflow completely.
