Description

Every Solar Array Begins — and Ends — at the Combiner Box.

Between the photons striking your rooftop and the inverter humming in your garage, there is a single point of convergence where the architecture of your power system is either made robust or left fragile. The Helios Junction is that point. This is not a passive junction block — it is the nervous system of your solar installation, the place where independent strings become a unified power plant. Engineered by SucceBuy with the kind of overbuilding that separates professional installations from weekend projects, this combiner box accepts 4 to 6 PV strings, each protected by its own DC fuse or circuit breaker, and routes them through a common busbar to a single output — clean, code-compliant, and obsessively organized.

The enclosure tells you everything you need to know. IP65-rated, powder-coated steel, with compression-gland cable entries that keep rain, dust, and curious insects out of the high-voltage DC pathways. Inside, DIN-rail-mounted fuse holders accept standard 10×38mm PV fuses rated at 10A or 15A per string — the same format used in utility-scale installations. There is a dedicated slot for a surge protection device (SPD), because anyone who has lost an inverter to a nearby lightning strike knows that surge protection is not optional in solar — it is the cheapest insurance policy you will ever buy. Every connection point is labeled. Every terminal is torque-specified. This is what good engineering looks like when no one is watching.

We recommend the Helios Junction for arrays exceeding three parallel strings, where the NEC requires overcurrent protection on each string conductor. It is equally at home on a 4kW residential roof, a 15kW ground-mount array, or a commercial carport installation. The 6-string version future-proofs your system for expansion — add two more strings next year without touching the combiner. For those who understand that a solar installation is only as reliable as its weakest connection, this is the component you install once and forget about for a decade.

The sun provides the energy. The Helios Junction ensures it arrives intact.

Key Features

4 or 6 String Inputs — Independent fuse-protected channels for each PV string, supporting arrays from 1kW to 20kW+ with proper string sizing.

10A / 15A DC Fuse Protection — Accepts standard 10×38mm PV fuses (included) with transparent indicator windows that show blown fuses at a glance. DIN rail mount for tool-free replacement.

Surge Protection Ready — Dedicated DIN slot for a Type 2 SPD module (sold separately). Protects downstream inverter and monitoring equipment from induced lightning surges on DC conductors.

IP65 Weatherproof Enclosure — Powder-coated steel with neoprene-gasket door seal and compression-gland cable entries. Rated for outdoor installation in rain, dust, and UV exposure.

1000V DC Rated — Busbar and terminals are rated for up to 1000V DC, compatible with modern high-voltage string inverter architectures.

Pre-Wired Busbar — Common positive and negative busbars with labeled terminal blocks. Eliminates the need for field-fabricated bus connections and reduces installation errors.

Code-Compliant Design — Meets NEC 690.9 requirements for overcurrent protection on parallel-connected PV source circuits with more than two strings.

Application Scenarios

The Helios Junction is purpose-built for any solar installation where multiple parallel strings converge before reaching the inverter. Residential rooftop systems with 3+ strings — particularly on multi-faceted roofs where each orientation forms its own string — use the 4-string version to fuse each circuit before they combine at the MPPT inputs. Ground-mount arrays, where 6+ strings are common due to uniform orientation, benefit from the 6-string variant with room for future expansion. Commercial carport and agrivoltaic installations, where DC home runs can stretch 100+ feet to a central inverter pad, appreciate the centralized protection and organized cable management. Off-grid systems with multiple charge controllers feeding a common battery bank use the combiner as a DC distribution hub. For solar installers, this is the part you spec into every bill of materials and never have to think about again — which is exactly the point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a combiner box for my solar installation?

A: If you have more than two parallel strings feeding a single MPPT input, the NEC requires overcurrent protection on each string conductor. A combiner box is the standard, code-compliant way to provide this.

Q: Are the fuses included, and what rating should I use?

A: Fuses are included. Select the current rating based on your PV module's short-circuit current (Isc): fuse rating should be between 1.56 × Isc and the module's maximum series fuse rating. Most residential 300W-450W modules use a 10A or 15A fuse.

Q: Can I install this outdoors?

A: Yes. The IP65-rated enclosure with compression-gland cable entries is designed for permanent outdoor installation. Mount it on a north-facing wall (in the northern hemisphere) or under the array to minimize direct sun exposure and keep internal temperatures lower.

Q: What surge protection device (SPD) do you recommend?

A: Any DIN-rail-mount Type 2 SPD rated for 1000V DC PV applications will fit the dedicated slot. Recommended: 1000V DC, Imax ≥ 40kA, Up ≤ 4kV. Brands like Citel, DEHN, and Phoenix Contact all make compatible modules.

Q: Can I mix different string lengths or orientations in this combiner?

A: Yes, provided each string has its own fuse and all strings operate at similar nominal voltage. However, strings with significantly different orientations or shading profiles should feed separate MPPT inputs on the inverter for optimal power harvesting.

Code-compliant right out of the box

Our inspector was impressed. Every string is individually fused, the labeling is clear, and the compression gland entries keep moisture out. We've installed these on 4 residential projects now and they've become our standard spec. The powder-coated steel enclosure feels substantial — not like the thin sheet metal boxes you often see at this price point.

The combiner box I wish I had on my first 3 installations

Solid enclosure, pre-wired busbar saves so much time. Used the 6-string version on a 7.2kW ground-mount and everything landed cleanly. Fuse holders are DIN-rail which makes replacements tool-free. The SPD slot is a nice touch — most residential boxes skip it entirely. Only improvement would be including the SPD in the box rather than it being a separate purchase.
