Description

A resin printer is a light projector with a vat attached, and the screen is the part that decides how fast it can think. The original Elegoo Mars shipped with a 5.5 inch RGB LCD that needed eight to twelve seconds to cure a layer. The Layer Forge is the monochrome replacement that does the same job in about two, which turns a fourteen hour print into three or four.

This is the ChiTu Systems DXQ608 module, a 6.08 inch monochrome panel at 1620 by 2560 resolution in a 10 to 16 ratio. The active area measures 82.62 by 130.56 millimetres, the module itself 87.2 by 138.56 millimetres, and the maximum thickness is 1.3 millimetres. It is an IPS hard screen with a transmissive polariser, a 1000 to 1 contrast ratio and an 80 degree viewing angle in every direction. Signal runs over MIPI, working temperature spans minus 20 to 70 degrees Celsius, and storage tolerance reaches minus 30 to 80. There is no backlight to fail, because monochrome panels pass ultraviolet light rather than generating visible light.

The speed gain is the obvious one, and two others follow. A monochrome panel spends far less time under ultraviolet, so it degrades more slowly than the RGB screen it replaces, and the finer mask improves edge definition on small features. Fitting one does require a firmware update on the printer, and the exposure settings change: the parameters tested for this screen are a two second layer exposure with a twenty five second bottom exposure. Both are entered once in the slicer.

Fourteen hours down to four. The screen decided it.

Where It Belongs

Owners of an Elegoo Mars or Mars Pro who want faster prints without buying a second machine, and workshops running several resin printers where cutting exposure time multiplies throughput. It also suits repair work, since a screen reaching the end of its life is the point where the monochrome upgrade makes both technical and financial sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which printers is this screen built for?

It is designed for the Elegoo Mars and Mars Pro class of resin printers, and the same panel format fits Voxelab Proxima class machines. Send us your model and we will confirm compatibility before shipping.

Q: Why does exposure time change after fitting it?

The monochrome panel has higher ultraviolet transmittance than the original RGB screen. The parameters we tested are a two second layer exposure and a twenty five second bottom exposure, entered once in the slicer.

Q: Do I need to update the firmware?

Yes. A firmware update is required for the new screen to work properly, which is the difference between this panel and the earlier DXQ608 revision. Instructions are supplied and our technical contact is available if a step is unclear.

Q: What is the resolution?

1620 by 2560 pixels on a 6.08 inch monochrome panel in a 10 to 16 aspect ratio.

Q: How much faster are prints?

Layer exposure drops from roughly eight to twelve seconds on the original RGB screen to around two seconds on this panel. On a tall print that is often the difference between an overnight job and a short afternoon one.

Q: Does it need a backlight?

No. A monochrome LCD passes ultraviolet light rather than producing visible light, so there is no backlight assembly and one fewer part to fail.

The EastSupplier Promise

Each module is checked before dispatch and shipped with tracked delivery. Because the upgrade depends on your printer model and firmware, our technical team confirms compatibility from your machine details before the box is packed, and support continues through the installation.

Straight swap on an Elegoo Mars

Dropped into my Mars without any modification to the frame. The resolution difference on small text details is obvious when comparing prints side by side. I keep a spare on the shelf now because the printer runs daily.

Great screen, firmware step needs care

Performance is exactly as described and the print quality is noticeably cleaner. The firmware update is not optional and took me two attempts to get right, so read the instructions fully first. Once done it has run without a problem.

Revived a printer I was about to replace

The old screen had reached the end of its life and I was pricing a new machine. Replacing the panel cost a fraction of that and the printer is faster than it ever was. Worth doing before you spend on a second printer.

Detail improved on small parts

I print miniatures with fine detail and the monochrome panel holds the edges better than the screen it replaced. Two second layer exposure, twenty five seconds bottom, exactly as stated. The screen seated properly in the existing frame.

Print times cut by two thirds

Fitted this to a Mars Pro that had the original RGB screen. A tall print that used to run overnight now finishes in the afternoon. The firmware update instructions were clear and the exposure settings in the listing were right for my resin.
