説明

Water does not enter through walls. It enters through the joints between them, and specifically through joints that were sealed once with a material that could not follow the structure as it expanded, contracted and settled. The Sealgrid is a strip of EPDM engineered for that movement: it compresses, recovers and keeps the line closed.

EPDM is the same elastomer used for automotive weather seals and flat-roof membranes, chosen because it tolerates ultraviolet exposure, ozone, and the freeze-thaw cycle without hardening into a brittle line that cracks in year three. The strip is produced in 5 and 10 metre lengths with a bottom width of 5, 6 or 7 mm, sized for the gap tolerances found on aluminium bridge, door and window profiles.

Installation follows the frame, not the wall. The strip seats into the profile channel, presses flat against the mating surface, and holds its shape under compression without needing adhesive to stay in place. That detail is what allows a repair to be done on a Tuesday afternoon without shutting a window for a curing period.

The economics are quiet but real: a sealed joint means the heating or cooling you paid for stays inside, and the aluminium profile stops collecting condensation on the cold side. For a glazed facade or a run of bridge windows, the strip is the least expensive part of the assembly and the one that decides how the assembly performs.

Seal the joint and the whole structure stops arguing with the weather.

Key Features

  • ✦ EPDM elastomer resists UV, ozone and freeze-thaw cycling
  • ✦ Available in 5 and 10 metre continuous lengths
  • ✦ Bottom widths of 5, 6 and 7 mm match common profile channels
  • ✦ Compression-recovery behaviour follows structural movement
  • ✦ Seats into aluminium bridge, door and window profiles
  • ✦ Holds position under compression without adhesive curing time
  • ✦ Reduces condensation on the cold side of aluminium frames

Where It Belongs

Glazed facades and curtain wall runs where aluminium profiles expand at a different rate to the structure. Bridge window assemblies that take wind load and thermal swing. Shopfront and entrance frames that see constant door movement. Retrofit weather sealing on buildings where the original gasket has hardened, and workshop or container conversions that need a joint that tolerates vibration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why EPDM rather than PVC or foam strip?

A: PVC hardens and shrinks under UV exposure, and foam collapses permanently after a few compression cycles. EPDM recovers its shape, which is the property a moving joint actually requires.

Q: Which width should I order for my profile?

A: Measure the channel depth rather than the visible gap. The strip should compress roughly a quarter of its section when the frame is closed, which for most aluminium door and window profiles lands on 5, 6 or 7 mm bottom width.

Q: Can it be used outdoors in freezing conditions?

A: Yes. EPDM is specified for exterior use and tolerates freeze-thaw cycling without embrittlement, which is where cheaper strips fail first.

Q: Does it need adhesive?

A: The strip seats into the profile channel and holds under compression. Adhesive is optional for vertical runs and for keeping a length in place during installation.

Q: How long do the 5 and 10 metre lengths cover?

A: Lengths are supplied continuous, so a 10 metre roll covers a full window run without a mid-run joint. Cut with a sharp blade at 90 degrees for a clean butt joint.

Q: Will it stop condensation on aluminium frames?

A: It breaks the path where warm interior air meets the cold profile, so the interior surface stays closer to room temperature and collects less moisture.

Measure the channel first

I ordered the 7mm and had to trim it for a narrow channel, my own mistake. Material quality is good and it cuts clean with a sharp blade. Would buy the 5mm for standard domestic frames next time.

EPDM not PVC, and it shows

The old strip on my shopfront had gone hard and cracked. This one compresses and springs back, which is what you need on a door that opens fifty times a day. Ten metre roll covered the whole front with spare length.

Sealed a leaking bridge window run

Used the 6mm strip on aluminium sliding windows that had been dripping for two winters. Seats into the channel without adhesive and the frame closes properly again. No condensation on the inside of the profile since.
