Description

Light behaves differently when it can be shaped. A softbox is not simply a bright object; it is a decision about how skin, texture and color will be read by a camera. That decision is what the 18-inch ring light was engineered to hand back to the person standing in front of it. At 36 watts with a colour rendering index above 95, the light does not fight the sensor, it feeds it.

The design earns its place on set because nothing about it is fixed. Colour temperature slides from a warm 2700K through neutral daylight to a cool 6500K, and intensity moves in a continuous curve between 10 and 100 percent rather than snapping between preset steps. The ring itself rotates a full 360 degrees on the ball head, so a product, a face or a flat-lay can be lit from any angle in the circle. There is no shutter release to press and no menu to learn.

Power was solved for travel rather than for a studio wall. The controller accepts AC between 100 and 240 volts and ships with the plug standard used in the destination market, while the included adaptor opens the door to a battery source when the nearest socket is a mile away. Carbon fibre tripods are offered from desktop height through 100, 150 and 184 centimetres to a full two metres, and where floor space does not exist at all, a wall bracket from 135 to 170 centimetres does the same job. Every tripod mount, phone clip and wall plate in the range uses the same ring and the same control dial.

This is not a lamp that happens to be round. It is a lighting decision with a stand attached.

What Sets It Apart

  • ✦ 18-inch diameter ring head with a 36W constant-current LED array and CRI above 95 for accurate skin tone
  • ✦ Bi-colour output from 2700K to 6500K on a single dial, with continuous dimming from 10 to 100 percent
  • ✦ 360-degree rotation on the ball head, so the circle can be angled to any subject without repositioning the stand
  • ✦ Choice of mount in the same listing: desktop, 100cm, 150cm, 184cm and 200cm tripods, or a 135cm and 170cm wall bracket
  • ✦ Universal phone clip and ball head take most smartphones and small tablets
  • ✦ Four plug standards (EU, UK, US, AU) plus an input adaptor for DC sources
  • ✦ No ultraviolet or infrared emission and low heat output, so talent can stay close to the ring for long sessions

Where It Belongs

This is the light that ends up in three different places in the same week. On a desk it turns a spare bedroom into a talking-head studio for YouTube, course modules and product reviews. On a tall tripod in a client office it becomes a fill light for headshots and team portraits, where the ring catchlight flatters the eyes. On a two-metre stand with a phone clip it becomes the whole lighting department for a wedding or fashion shoot that has to move between rooms. Beauty artists use the ring for lash, brow and makeup work because a source that surrounds the subject flattens the shadows that hide detail, and live sellers use it because it keeps a face evenly lit while hands move in and out of frame. Wherever the work is done, the setup travels in a single bag and needs one socket.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the ring light come with a stand?

A: Every bundle in the listing includes a stand, but which one depends on the option you choose. Desktop, 100cm, 150cm, 184cm and 200cm tripods are available, along with 135cm and 170cm wall brackets. If you select a no-tripod option, the ring, controller, phone clip and ball head arrive on their own.

Q: Can I use it with a camera rather than a phone?

A: Yes. The ball head accepts a standard 1/4 inch screw, so a camera, a microphone arm or a small light modifier can share the mount. The multifunction head was designed to carry a phone, a microphone and a camera at the same time.

Q: How is the colour temperature changed?

A: A single control dial on the power unit slides the output between 2700K and 6500K, and the same dial family controls brightness from 10 to 100 percent. There are no preset steps to cycle through, which makes matching an existing room light straightforward.

Q: Does it work outside the country it was bought in?

A: The controller accepts 100 to 240 volts and four plug standards are offered, so the same fixture works in Europe, North America, the United Kingdom and Australia. Travelling with it only requires the correct plug option or a travel adaptor.

Q: Is the light hot to work next to for long periods?

A: No. The LED array is driven at constant current with no ultraviolet or infrared output and very low heat, so talent and presenters can sit inside the ring for extended sessions without discomfort.

Q: What size phone will the clip hold?

A: The included clip fits most smartphones and small tablets, and because it mounts on the same ball head as the camera screw, a phone and a microphone can be positioned together.

One light, three jobs

Bought it for headshots, ended up using it for lash work and for filming a course module. The four plug standards meant it worked straight out of the box here and in the studio I rent abroad. Stepless dimming makes it usable at very low output, which most ring lights cannot do.

The ring itself is excellent, the stand is light

Used the 200 cm tripod bundle for two weeks of shoots. The light output is even across the whole circle and the 360 degree ball head makes repositioning quick. The tripod is fine indoors but I would not trust it outdoors with any wind, so I docked a star for the stand rather than the light.

The colour dial is why I bought it

I shoot product videos on a kitchen table and the 2700K to 6500K dial lets me match the room light instead of fighting it. Dimming down to about 30 per cent for a close-up keeps the highlight off the packaging. CRI above 95 is not marketing talk, skin tones look right straight out of camera.
