Description

Water has a temperature at which tea stops being a drink and becomes a ritual. Every step above boiling scalds a green leaf and every degree below it leaves the aroma locked in. The Ember Table is a black microcrystalline ceramic plate with ten power steps and an 800 watt element, which is enough control to hold a simmer without a rolling boil and enough reserve to bring a full kettle back to temperature while the table is still talking.

The panel is the part that matters. Microcrystalline glass takes thermal shock without crazing, wipes clean with a cloth, and does not stain the way a metal hot plate does after a season of use. It is waterproof, so a spill is a wipe and not an event, and the surface stays warm rather than hot enough to burn a wrist. A rotary switch handles the selection, which means no touch panel to misread with wet hands and nothing digital to fail.

Four finishes cover the aesthetics: white, black, silver and a wood-grain print that sits comfortably on a wooden tea table. Plug options run through EU, UK, AU and CN standards, so the same appliance works in a Berlin flat, a London studio and a Melbourne kitchen. It is not a hob for a family kitchen. It is a single dedicated heat source for a single dedicated habit.

Boil water badly and the leaf forgives you. Hold it at the right temperature and the leaf tells you everything.

Where It Belongs

A tea table in a Chinese or Japanese setting is the intended home, where the stove stays on for the length of a conversation and the keep-warm step keeps a clay pot at the right temperature without reheating. Coffee drinkers use it as a server warmer for pour-over, holding a carafe at 85 degrees between cups. In a small studio flat it replaces a kettle and a hot plate at once. Offices with a shared kitchen use it because there is no exposed coil and nothing to scrub. Tea shops, tasting rooms and hotel suites use the wood-grain finish where a black glass panel would look industrial.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can it boil a full kettle?

A: It reaches a boil at 800 watts, taking longer than a 2000 watt kettle. Its strength is holding a temperature, and boiling a small pot on the highest step is well within range.

Q: What pot works on a ceramic plate?

A: Flat-bottomed vessels in glass, ceramic, stainless steel or cast iron. The base needs to sit flush against the panel for efficient transfer.

Q: Does the plate stay hot after switching off?

A: Yes, residual heat remains for a few minutes as with any glass-ceramic surface. The panel cools far faster than a solid metal hot plate.

Q: Is it really waterproof?

A: The panel and housing are sealed against spills and wiping. Do not immerse the unit or run it under a tap.

Q: Which plug should a US buyer choose?

A: The unit is specified at 220 V. For a 110 V region a step-up transformer is required, so confirm the supply before ordering the CN, EU, UK or AU variant.

Q: How long does it take to bring a pot of water to a simmer?

A: A small ceramic or glass pot reaches a gentle simmer in roughly eight to twelve minutes on the highest step, depending on starting temperature and vessel thickness. Cast iron takes longer to respond but holds heat longer once it is there, which suits a long session with several infusions.

Q: Is the wood grain finish real wood?

A: It is a printed finish on the same microcrystalline panel, sealed under the glass surface. That keeps the waterproof and heat-resistant properties identical across all four colours while giving the warmer look that suits a wooden tea table.

Q: Does the keep-warm step cycle on and off?

A: Yes. At the lowest steps the element cycles to hold a pot near drinking temperature rather than boiling it dry. That cycling is what makes it usable for an hour-long session where tea is poured slowly and the pot would otherwise go cold between cups.

Read the voltage note

Excellent for tea, but check your supply, mine is 220V so the EU plug variant was correct. Heating a full large pot is slower than a kettle, which is expected at 800W. Panel stays cool around the edges.

Looks right on a wooden table

Ordered the wood grain finish and it sits better with my tea tray than a black panel would. The rotary switch is easy to work with wet hands and there is nothing digital to fail.

Holds a simmer without a rolling boil

Ten steps gives real control over green tea, which is why I replaced a kettle. The black glass panel wipes clean and the keep warm step holds a pot at drinking temperature for an hour without scorching the leaf.
