Description

Light Is Not A Feature. It Is The Shape Of The Evening. Anyone who has spent a night outdoors knows the difference between a lamp that illuminates and one that defines a room. The Ember Field sits in the second category: a 3500-lumen COB array with a colour temperature dial that moves from 2700 Kelvin candle warmth to 6900 Kelvin working daylight, which is the mechanism by which a campsite becomes a place rather than a location.

The body is high-strength aluminium-plastic at 157 grams, IPX4 rated for rain and snow, and tested against a 1.5-metre drop onto hard ground. A 3000mAh 18650 cell delivers between 2.5 and 12 hours depending on output, refilled through a Type-C port in about 2.5 hours, and the digital power indicator removes the guessing that turns a lantern into a paperweight at the worst moment. Green fluorescent beads on the housing make it findable in the dark, which is a small design decision that only sounds obvious to people who have never searched a tent at 3am.

Mounting is where it stops behaving like a lantern. A magnetic base attaches to a vehicle panel, a steel post or the inside of a toolbox lid. A quarter-inch threaded hole takes any tripod or light stand, which turns it into a work light for a repair or a fill light for a photograph. A hanging hook with included rope suspends it inside a tent. Brightness cycles through energy-saving, low, medium and high, a double click brings up a red night-vision mode, and a thirty-second safety timer shuts it down after you leave.

It weighs 157 grams. What it replaces weighs considerably more.

Where It Belongs

For the camper who wants one light that covers the tent interior, the cooking table and the walk to the wash block. For the mechanic working under a bonnet at night, where the magnetic base on a wing panel is worth more than any hand torch. For the photographer who needs a fill light on a tripod thread. For the household that loses power twice a year and would rather not do it by candlelight.

Questions, Answered

Q: How long does it run at full brightness?

Roughly 2.5 hours at maximum output, extending to about 12 hours in the energy-saving mode. The digital indicator shows remaining capacity so runtime is never a guess.

Q: Is IPX4 enough for rain?

IPX4 handles rain and spray from any direction, which covers normal outdoor use. It is not designed for submersion, so do not leave it in standing water or a flooded tent floor.

Q: Can I use it while it charges?

Yes, it can run from a power bank through the Type-C port, which effectively extends runtime indefinitely for a base camp or a vehicle setup.

Q: What does the colour temperature dial change?

It shifts the emitted spectrum between 2700K warm white for a relaxed evening and 6900K cool daylight for task work and detail. Intermediate positions blend the two emitters.

Q: How does the magnetic base hold?

The base magnet is strong enough for a vertical steel panel such as a vehicle body or a steel beam. On thin sheet metal or an uneven surface use the hook or the tripod thread instead.

Q: Is there a red light mode?

Yes. A double click switches to red, which preserves night vision and is far less disruptive when you need light without waking everyone else in the tent.

Bright enough to light a whole campsite

Ran it on medium for two evenings and the indicator still showed plenty of capacity. Fluorescent beads make it findable inside a dark tent, which sounds like a small thing until you need it.

Magnet holds on the van panel

Stuck it to the inside of the rear door while fixing a wiring fault at night and it did not budge over a bumpy track. Red mode is useful and much less blinding than white. Charging took about two and a half hours as claimed.

Replaced three lights in my kit

This one lantern now covers the tent interior, the cooking table and the walk to the wash block. The warm setting at 2700K is the reason I kept it, it does not feel like a work light when you are sitting down for the evening.
