Description

Half of all abandoned FPV builds die on a protocol mismatch that costs less than a coffee.

The story is always the same. A receiver arrives that speaks inverted SBus, the flight controller expects a normal UART signal, and the quad sits on the bench with a receiver light that never goes solid. Nothing is broken. The wiring is right and the firmware is flashed. What is missing is a logic inversion, and the fix costs a fraction of the receiver it is rescuing.

This two-pack does exactly one job: it takes an inverted SBus stream and hands the flight controller a clean, non-inverted signal. The board is small enough to tuck behind the receiver stack, soldered in line on the signal wire, and it works at the standard 5V rail that Betaflight and Cleanflight boards already supply. There is no firmware to flash and no configuration software to learn, which matters when the alternative is buying a second receiver or digging through UART inversion settings that change between firmware versions.

Flying two units means one goes into the build and one stays in the field box. Inverters are small, easy to lose in grass, and the failure point you want a spare for is the one that stops a session before it starts. Each board is a single layer part with through-hole pads, so re-soldering it after a crash takes a minute rather than a new order.

Four grams of logic that decide whether the day ends with a flight or a bench session.

Key Features

  • ✦ Single purpose inversion converts inverted SBus to the standard signal modern flight controllers expect.
  • ✦ No firmware required pure hardware conversion, nothing to flash and no UART settings to guess.
  • ✦ 5V rail compatible runs from the same regulated supply as the receiver and controller.
  • ✦ Two per pack a spare for the field box, because these are easily lost in grass.
  • ✦ Compact inline board sits behind the stack without crowding the receiver mount.
  • ✦ Through-hole pads straightforward to re-solder after a crash or a wiring change.

Where It Belongs

The obvious user is the FPV builder with a drawer of receivers bought before checking which protocol the controller wants, and this resolves that drawer in one order. It also earns its place in fixed-wing and rover builds where a legacy receiver is being reused, in bench test rigs where swapping a receiver to match a test controller is routine, and in small repair shops that keep spares for customers rather than delaying a build by a week. Two units cover a primary build and its backup, which is the cheapest insurance available on an otherwise complete quad.

Questions, Answered

Q. Will this work with my receiver?

It converts an inverted SBus output to a standard non-inverted signal. If your receiver speaks inverted SBus and your controller expects a normal UART, this is the part between them.

Q. Do I need to flash anything?

No. The conversion is hardware only, which is exactly why builders keep one in the spares box.

Q. Where do I wire it?

Inline on the signal line between receiver and flight controller, powered from the 5V rail already present in the harness.

Q. What is the pin order?

Signal in, signal out, ground and 5V on the pads. Check your receiver and controller pinout once before soldering.

Q. Will it work on 3.3V logic builds?

The board is designed around the 5V rail used by these receivers. On a 3.3V logic build, confirm the inversion threshold before relying on it.

Q. How big is it?

Micro footprint, small enough to sit under a stack or inside heat-shrink.

Rescued a receiver I was about to replace

Bought a second receiver because I assumed mine was faulty. This board proved otherwise and the replacement is still in its bag, so it paid for itself immediately.

Does the job, check your pinout first

Works exactly as described on a 5V build. Confirm which pad is signal in before soldering, because the board is tiny and reworking it takes patience.

Two in the pack is the right call

One went in the quad and the second is in the field box. It is small enough to lose in grass, so having a spare has already saved a session once.

Sorted a protocol mismatch in five minutes

My receiver spoke inverted SBus and the controller wanted normal UART. Soldered this inline and the receiver light went solid first power-up. Nothing to configure, which is exactly what I wanted on a build night.
