5G progress: China has opened 961,000 5G base stations

At the press conference on the development of industry and informatization in the first half of the year held by the Information Office of the State Council today, Tian Yulong, chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealed that the development of information and communications was accelerated in the first half of the year, and the integration of innovative applications was strong.

At present, a total of 961,000 5G base stations have been opened. As of the end of June 2021, it covers all prefecture-level and above cities in the country, with approximately 365 million 5G terminal connections. At the same time, the deployment of “dual gigabit” networks has been accelerated, and the number of gigabit broadband users reached 13.62 million.

Tian Yulong said that my country’s 5G industry ecology is gradually expanding, and integrated applications are becoming more active, and the system has formed a leading advantage. There are mainly three aspects.

One is to maintain a leading position in 5G network construction.

At present, we have built the world’s largest 5G independent networking network, opened 961,000 5G base stations, promoted the construction of more than 400,000 shared base stations, and the number of 5G terminal connections reached 365 million.

Second, the advantages of the 5G industry continue to expand.

The proportion of 5G standard-essential patents declared by Chinese enterprises continues to lead the world, and Huawei and ZTE have more than 50% of the market share of 5G equipment. From January to June this year, domestic 5G mobile phone shipments reached 128 million units, accounting for 73.4%.

The third is that the integration of 5G application empowerment into thousands of industries has become significant.

In the past two years of commercial use, 5G has been integrated into various industries such as industry, energy, and medical care, playing an important role, opening up a new path and providing a new engine for the digital transformation of the economy and society and the development of the digital economy.
