説明

A fixed camera covers one angle and hopes. A PTZ camera covers the angle you point it at today and the one you need tomorrow, which is the difference that matters on a shop front, a yard or a driveway where the interesting activity moves. The Turret Eye is a 2.5 inch dome on a pan and tilt head, 8 megapixel sensor, 3.6 millimetre lens, four times digital zoom, and a range of motion from 0 to 355 degrees horizontally so a single unit covers a corner that would otherwise take three fixed cameras.

The imaging chain is specified for the hours that matter. A Sony CMOS sensor with a minimum illumination of 0.0001 lux works down to near-darkness, and the infrared illumination reaches between 10 and 150 metres depending on conditions, so a yard or a loading bay stays readable after the lights go off. H.265 compression is what makes the footage storable: the same retention window takes roughly half the bandwidth and disk space of H.264, which is the practical difference between a week of recording and a fortnight.

On the network side the camera is deliberately boring in the way installers want. PoE 48 volt or 12 volt DC input, so one cable carries power and data if there is a PoE switch, or it drops onto existing 12 volt cabling. RTSP streaming, an XMEYE compatible NVR profile, and the ICSee app on Android and iOS cover the three ways people actually watch footage. Face detection runs on the camera rather than in the cloud, so alerts do not depend on a subscription or on the vendor staying in business.

Two sensor options are stocked, 5 megapixel and 8 megapixel, and the honest guidance is that the 5MP version is the better buy for most domestic installations: the file sizes are smaller, the drive lasts longer, and at the distances a house or small shop actually monitors, the extra resolution rarely converts into extra identification. The 8MP version earns its price on a wide yard or a car park where the camera is asked to read a plate at distance.

Coverage is not how many cameras you own. It is how much of the scene you can actually identify.

Key Features

  • 8MP Sony CMOS sensor Enough resolution to identify a face or read a plate at distance, with 5MP also available for smaller sites.
  • 0 to 355 degree pan One camera covers a corner, a yard or a shopfront that would otherwise need three fixed units.
  • 4x digital zoom Closes in on the part of the frame that matters without changing lenses or adding a second camera.
  • 0.0001 lux minimum illumination Works in near-darkness rather than giving up at dusk, and pairs with infrared out to 150 metres.
  • H.265 compression Roughly half the storage and bandwidth of H.264 at the same quality, which doubles practical retention.
  • PoE 48V or 12V DC One cable for power and data on a PoE switch, or a drop-in replacement on existing 12 volt runs.
  • On-camera face detection Alerts generated locally, so nothing depends on a cloud subscription to keep working.
  • RTSP, XMEYE and ICSee Standard streaming plus an NVR profile and a phone app, covering the three ways people watch footage.

Where It Belongs

It suits a shop front, a small warehouse loading bay, a farmyard, a driveway or a builder's yard where the camera has to cover ground rather than a doorway. It suits the installer retrofitting a site that already has 12 volt cabling, since the DC option avoids pulling new cable, and it suits the householder who wants one camera to cover a corner rather than three fixed units and a junction box. The 5MP version is the sensible domestic choice, the 8MP version is for distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a special recorder?

A: No. The camera streams RTSP and presents an XMEYE compatible profile, which most generic NVRs and Blue Iris style software accept. It also records to a card locally, so a recorder is optional for a single camera.

Q: Is the zoom optical?

A: No, it is 4x digital, so the image is cropped and scaled rather than optically magnified. On the 8MP sensor that still leaves useful detail, but do not expect the clarity of a varifocal lens.

Q: Can it pan automatically to follow motion?

A: It pans and tilts under app control and can be set to preset positions. Automatic tracking depends on the software you pair it with, since the tracking logic lives in the NVR or app rather than in the camera.

Q: What cable does PoE need?

A: Standard Cat5e or Cat6 to a PoE switch or injector. Check that the switch supplies 802.3af power, since a passive injector will not negotiate correctly.

Q: Will it work outdoors in winter?

A: The rating covers -10 to 60 degrees Celsius, which handles a European or North American winter. Mount it under an eave where possible so the dome does not sit under standing water.

Q: Is audio recorded?

A: This model is video only. If you need audio, check the listing variant before ordering, because microphone provision varies across the range.

Q: How much storage does H.265 save?

A: Roughly half compared with H.264 at equivalent quality. On continuous recording that is the difference between about a week and about a fortnight on the same drive.

Infrared is the strong point

The yard is dark past the porch light and the IR still shows the fence line clearly at about forty metres. ONVIF profile picked up in Blue Iris without manual path editing, which is rare at this price.

Digital zoom, not optical

Be clear about the 4x: it crops rather than magnifies, so on the 5MP sensor a distant plate is still soft. At the distances a shop front or a driveway needs, the 8MP is the one that reads detail. RTSP into my NVR worked first time.

One camera replaced three fixed ones

355 degrees of pan covers the corner of my yard that used to need two cameras and a junction box. The 5MP version is honestly enough for a house, the file sizes are smaller and faces are still identifiable at the gate.
