説明

Your car is not old. Its screen is. A 2019 model with a factory wired CarPlay port still runs whichever interface shipped with it, and the hardware behind the glass has aged far more than the vehicle around it. The CarlinKit S2 sits in that gap. Plug it into the existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto port and the factory screen becomes a full Android 13 device running on a Qualcomm SM6115 eight-core chip.

The work happens in two directions at once. For normal driving, the box behaves as standard wireless CarPlay or wireless Android Auto, so your phone connects without a cable and the factory controls keep working. Press and hold the supplied pin for two or three seconds and it switches to the Android 13 desktop, where Netflix, YouTube, the Play Store and split screen are all available on the screen you already have. A TF card slot takes storage up to 512GB for offline media, and the unit carries GPS, Glonass and Beidou positioning alongside a SIM slot and a phone hotspot option for data.

Physically it is undramatic, which is the point. The housing measures 80 by 80 by 15 millimetres and weighs 64 grams, powered from a 5 volt 2 amp supply drawing about 5 watts, so nothing about the vehicle's electrical system is stressed. It ships in regional variants for North America, Japan and Europe, in either 4GB with 64GB of storage or 8GB with 128GB. Cars with only wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto qualify, and BMW head units are the one documented exception.

Two seconds of holding a pin is cheaper than two years of a new car payment.

Where This Box Changes The Daily Drive

The typical buyer already has a car they intend to keep and a screen they have stopped enjoying. A commuter wants Waze, Spotify and their messages on the dashboard without docking a phone. A family doing long drives wants video on the factory screen for the back seats rather than a tablet propped on a headrest. A driver in a market where the manufacturer never enabled full CarPlay wants the region-correct variant that works with the head unit they actually own. Whoever installs it, the install itself takes minutes, because nothing is cut or spliced: the box sits on the existing port.

Fitment And Setup

Q: Will this work in my car?

It requires a factory wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto port. If your head unit has that, the box adds wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and the Android 13 desktop on top of it.

Q: Does it work with BMW?

BMW head units are specifically listed as not supported, so this unit is not the right choice for those vehicles.

Q: Should I choose 4GB with 64GB or 8GB with 128GB?

The 4GB and 64GB version covers navigation, music and light streaming. Choose 8GB and 128GB if you plan to install several apps, run split screen regularly, or keep media on the device.

Q: Do I need a SIM card for internet?

A SIM card slot is built in, and you can also connect through your phone's hotspot. Any data plan for the SIM is arranged separately with your carrier.

Q: Can I still use the factory controls?

Yes. Wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto run through the original steering wheel and screen controls, and you switch modes by pressing the supplied pin for about two or three seconds.

Q: How much storage can I add?

The TF card slot accepts a card up to 512GB, which is enough to keep music and video available when there is no signal.

Q: Is it hard to fit?

No cutting or rewiring is involved. The unit plugs into the existing factory port, and the package measures about 99 by 99 by 39 millimetres.

Two seconds to switch modes

That pin press is the whole trick and it works every time. I took the 8GB and 128GB version, put a large TF card in for offline music, and the unit has never stuttered on video. GPS locks quickly and the box is small enough that nothing rattles.

Read the BMW warning before ordering

Works perfectly in my Golf and installed in about a minute with no cables cut. A friend tried to buy one for a BMW and the listing rightly says those head units are not supported, so check your model first. Four stars because the setup menus take some exploring.

My factory screen is finally useful

My car had wired CarPlay and nothing else, so I was docking a phone every journey. Now it connects wirelessly and pressing the pin gives me Android 13 with the Play Store. Split screen with navigation on one side and music on the other is how I run it daily, and video keeps the back seats quiet on long drives.
