A torn sofa seat is a decision point. Reupholstery quotes arrive in the hundreds, a new sofa arrives in the thousands, and a throw blanket arrives in the same week and never quite hides the split. A self-adhesive PU patch sits between those options: it costs a fraction, takes twenty minutes, and if the colour match is right the repair disappears at conversational distance.
The sheet is PU leather over a nonwoven backing, supplied at 50 by 137cm or 100 by 137cm, and it is genuinely self-adhesive rather than a heat-activated veneer. Cut it oversize, round the corners, clean the surface with alcohol, press from the centre outward, and the bond strengthens over the first hours as the adhesive wets out.
Sixteen colours carry the range from black and chocolate through beige, khaki, grey, violet and rose red. Colour matching is the one step that decides whether the repair reads as restoration or as a patch, so order a shade that is slightly darker rather than slightly lighter. Leather darkens with use, and a pale patch on a worn seat is the only thing the eye will find.
Upholstery fails at the seam, not the whole seat. Repair the seam and the seat has years left in it.

What It Rescues
The obvious case is a leather sofa with a split on the seat or a scuff on the armrest, where the frame and cushions are sound and only the surface has failed. Car interiors are the second: worn side bolsters, a cracked seat base, a torn door card. Rental properties use it between tenancies because it holds for a year at a fraction of a reupholstery invoice. It also covers bag corners, jacket elbows, motorcycle seats and workspace chair arms where the coating has rubbed through to the fabric.
Application Questions
Q: How do I get the colour right without seeing it in person?
A: Compare against the underside of your furniture, a hidden panel or the back of a cushion, which has seen less sun than the seat. Order one shade darker than your instinct. A slightly dark patch reads as shadow, a light patch reads as damage.
Q: Will it stick to fabric or only to leather?
A: The adhesive bonds well to leather, vinyl and tightly woven fabric. Loose weave, heavy pile and untreated suede are poor substrates because there is not enough continuous surface for the adhesive to grip. On fabric, iron the area flat and let it cool before applying.
Q: How long does the adhesive last?
A: On a cleaned, non-oily surface the bond holds for months to years in normal seating use. The failure mode is usually an edge lifting, and that edge can be re-pressed or trimmed. Preparation matters more than the adhesive: any silicone polish residue left on the surface will defeat it.
Q: Can I apply it over a curved armrest?
A: Yes, PU at this thickness conforms to gentle curves. Work from the centre outward with a soft cloth, and make relief cuts on the inside of tight curves rather than stretching the sheet, which lifts the edges later. For tight piping, cut two pieces and overlap rather than forcing one sheet around the bend.
Q: Is it waterproof and can I clean it?
A: The PU face resists spills and wipes clean with a damp cloth or a mild upholstery cleaner. It is not a sealed waterproof membrane over the substrate, so standing water at an edge will eventually work under the adhesive. Blot spills rather than flooding the area.
Q: Will the patch be obvious to guests?
A: At conversational distance, with a matched colour and rounded corners, it is largely invisible. Up close in raking light the texture difference shows. If the goal is a showroom finish rather than a serviceable repair, this is a bridge, not a replacement.
Q: Can I cut it to a small shape?
A: Yes, and small is where it works best. Round every corner, because a square corner peels first. For a tear, cut an oval that extends two centimetres beyond the damage in every direction so the adhesive lands on sound material.
Q: Does it work on a car seat in summer heat?
A: PU handles interior temperatures, and the adhesive is pressure sensitive rather than heat activated. On a dark seat in direct sun, avoid stretching the sheet during application, since tension plus heat is what causes lifting. Apply in shade and let the vehicle cool first.
