A Saddle Is the Only Contact Point That Bears Your Full Weight — and the One Most Cyclists Neglect. The Archon is a full carbon fiber bicycle saddle that applies the engineering principles of aerospace composite structures to the single interface between rider and machine. At 135 grams, it vanishes beneath you; at 275mm in length with a 142mm width, it supports without crowding the inner thigh on downstrokes.

The shell is a uni-directional carbon fiber layup cured in a single-piece mould — no bonded joints, no stress risers at connection points where most carbon saddles eventually fail. The rail system uses oversized 7×9mm oval carbon rails that distribute clamping force across 30% more surface area than standard 7mm round rails, eliminating the hot-spot pressure that cracks rail-to-shell bonds over time. On rough pavement and gravel sectors, the shell's engineered flex zones — positioned at the sit-bone contact patches — absorb high-frequency road buzz without the mushy energy loss of gel-padded alternatives.

The upper surface is a microfibre leather with a textured central channel that reduces perineal pressure by 22% compared to a flat-profile saddle of equivalent dimensions (measured at 200W steady-state output on a stationary rig). The nose is tapered to 42mm — narrow enough for aggressive aero positions without sacrificing the real estate needed when you slide forward on a climb. This is not a comfort saddle dressed up in carbon. It is a racing chassis tuned for long days.

Weight matters. Fit matters more. The Archon refuses to trade one for the other.

Key Features

  • ✦ Uni-directional carbon fiber shell — single-piece mould, zero bonded joints
  • ✦ Oversized 7×9mm oval carbon rails — 30% more clamp surface area than 7mm round
  • ✦ Engineered flex zones at sit-bone contact patches — vibration absorption without energy loss
  • ✦ Microfibre leather upper with textured central relief channel (22% pressure reduction)
  • ✦ 135g total weight — competitive with saddles at 3× the price point
  • ✦ 42mm tapered nose — aero-position compatible without sacrificing climb-forward real estate
  • ✦ 275mm × 142mm platform — medium-width profile for road, gravel, and XC

Where It Excels

The Archon is at home on everything from Sunday coffee rides to gran fondo events to gravel races where the unpaved sectors test both equipment and resolve. Road cyclists will appreciate the weight savings on long climbs; gravel riders will notice the vibration damping on washboard descents. The medium-width platform (142mm) fits the majority of riders whose sit-bone width falls between 110mm and 130mm — which is approximately 70% of the adult cycling population. For riders currently on a stock saddle weighing 280-320g, The Archon represents a 50% weight reduction at the bike's most critical contact point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does this saddle fit all seatpost clamp types?

A: The 7×9mm oval rails are compatible with the majority of modern seatpost clamps. If your seatpost uses a side-clamp design or a proprietary system (e.g., some aero seatposts), check that it accepts oval rails before purchasing. The saddle includes shims for round-rail clamps that grip from above and below.

Q: How much flex does the carbon shell provide?

A: Measured deflection at the sit-bone contact patches is 3-5mm under an 80kg rider at steady-state 200W output. This is enough to absorb road buzz without creating the "hammock effect" that some overly flexible saddles produce, which can cause hip rock and power loss.

Q: Is the microfibre surface grippy or slippery?

A: Moderately grippy — enough to prevent unwanted fore-aft sliding on climbs, but smooth enough to allow position adjustments when shifting from hoods to drops. The textured central channel provides additional grip in the precise zone where most riders want stability.

Q: What is the break-in period for a carbon saddle?

A: The saddle itself requires no break-in — carbon fiber does not soften with use. However, your body typically requires 3-5 rides (150-250km total) to adapt to a new saddle profile. We recommend starting with shorter rides and gradually increasing duration.

Q: Can the rails be mounted on a carbon seatpost?

A: Yes, but use a calibrated torque wrench set to the seatpost manufacturer's specification (typically 5-6Nm for carbon-on-carbon clamping). Over-torquing carbon rails is the most common cause of premature rail failure — never exceed 7Nm on any carbon rail saddle.

Great saddle — check your sit bone width first

Lightweight, well-made carbon saddle that looks and feels premium. The vibration damping on chip-seal roads is noticeably better than my alloy-railed saddle. The 142mm width worked well for me (116mm sit bones) but it's worth measuring before ordering — this is a medium-width platform and won't fit everyone. Give it 3-4 rides to break your body in, not the saddle.

Best value carbon saddle on the market

I've ridden Fizik, Specialized Power, and Selle Italia saddles over the years. This Archon holds its own against all of them at a fraction of the cost. The 7x9mm oval rails fit my seatpost clamp perfectly. The central channel actually relieves pressure — I can feel the difference on aero bar positions. 500km in and it still looks new. If you're on the fence, just buy it.

135g and more comfortable than my 250g saddle

Put this Archon saddle on my road bike two weeks ago and I'm genuinely impressed. At 135g it's lighter than saddles costing 3x as much, and the carbon shell actually flexes in the right places. Did a 100km ride on mixed pavement and had zero numbness — which I usually get around 60km on my old saddle. The microfibre surface has the perfect amount of grip without being sticky.
