Descrizione

Heat is not removed by a fan. It is removed by a surface that touches it and carries it away, and the quality of that contact decides how far a system can be pushed before it throttles.

This is a machined aluminium water-cooling block for PC loops, LED arrays and small power electronics, available in 40x40x12 mm and 40x80x12 mm formats with a blue anodised finish on the standard variants. The internal channel is cut as a straight-through path with a wide bore, so flow stays high and restriction stays low, which matters when a single pump is feeding several blocks in a loop.

Each block is drilled and tapped for standard G1/4 fittings and sealed with a machined gasket face rather than a flat joint, so it can be disassembled for cleaning and reassembled without chasing a leak. Both sizes take a thermal pad or compound on the contact face, which is where the real performance lives.

A cooling loop is only as good as its flattest surface and its widest channel.

Machined Detail

  • ✦ Solid aluminium body with a machined internal flow channel
  • ✦ Wide bore path for high flow and low restriction
  • ✦ G1/4 threaded ports for standard PC water-cooling fittings
  • ✦ Machined gasket face that reseals cleanly after maintenance
  • ✦ Anodised blue finish on the standard variants
  • ✦ Two footprints, 40x40x12 mm and 40x80x12 mm, for different die areas

Thermal Data

  • Type: Aluminium water-cooling block, heat sink
  • Sizes: 40x40x12 mm and 40x80x12 mm
  • Material: Machined aluminium
  • Finish: Anodised, blue standard variants
  • Ports: G1/4 threaded, two per block
  • Internal Path: Straight wide-bore channel
  • Mounting: Through-bolt holes at the corners
  • Assembly: Machined gasket face for repeatable resealing
  • Compatibility: PC loops, LED arrays, TEC and small power electronics
  • Note: Matches aluminium components; use appropriate coolant additive

Construction And Assembly

The block begins as extruded aluminium bar and is machined on all faces so the contact surface is flat enough for a thin, even layer of thermal compound. A thick layer is the most common installation mistake, because excess paste adds resistance rather than removing it. The anodised layer is a protective oxide, which is why the block is designed to sit in an aluminium loop rather than a copper one: mixing the two metals in one wet circuit invites galvanic corrosion. Corner holes accept standard mounting hardware, and the gasket face is machined square so the same seal can be reused after a cleaning pass.

Where It Gets Used

Inside a compact PC loop where a full CPU block will not fit, on a high-power LED array where the star board cannot shed heat on its own, on thermoelectric cooler assemblies that need a hot-side sink, and inside small enclosures where airflow barely exists. Anywhere a component runs close to its thermal ceiling and a fan alone has stopped being enough, a block with real coolant flow is the next honest step.

Loop And Maintenance

  • ✦ Apply thermal compound thinly and evenly on the contact face
  • ✦ Fit the block before filling the loop, and pressure test on paper towels
  • ✦ Flush the loop before first fill to remove machining residue
  • ✦ Use a corrosion-inhibiting coolant in mixed-metal loops
  • ✦ Drain and clean annually if the loop runs continuously

Builders Questions

Q: Which size should I choose?

The 40x40 footprint suits a small die area such as a chipset, LED star or TEC. The 40x80 covers a longer device or two components in series.

Q: Do fittings come with it?

The block is supplied with its ports ready for standard G1/4 fittings, which are not included. Any G1/4 barb or compression fitting will thread in.

Q: Which coolant should I use?

Use a coolant with a corrosion inhibitor. Because the block is aluminium, mix it with aluminium components rather than copper ones in the same wet loop.

Q: How much thermal paste should I apply?

A thin, even film just thick enough to fill surface imperfections. More paste increases thermal resistance rather than reducing it.

Q: Can it be used with a passive radiator only?

It works, but a passive loop requires more radiator surface. The block moves heat efficiently into the coolant; the radiator is what finally rejects it.

Q: Is it suitable for a thermoelectric cooler?

Yes. Blocking the hot side of a TEC is exactly the kind of small, high-flux heat load this design handles well.

Q: Does the anodising affect thermal performance?

The anodised layer is thin and sits on the outer surfaces. Performance depends on the contact face and the coolant path, both of which are machined metal.

Q: Can the block be disassembled?

The gasket face is machined so it reseals reliably. Disassemble for cleaning rather than for routine maintenance.

Build Support

Shipped tracked from our warehouse with a 30-day return window on unused blocks. If a thread is damaged or a face is not true, we replace it. Builders with loop questions get a straight technical answer.

Used it on an LED array

Ran one on a high power LED star that had no way to shed heat. Coolant carries it away now and the housing runs warm instead of hot.

Reseals after cleaning

Took it apart to clear residue and the machined gasket face sealed again with no chasing. Good detail for anyone maintaining a loop.

Machined properly, needs thin paste

The contact face is flat and the G1/4 threads cut clean. My first attempt used too much paste and performed worse, so apply it thin.

Dropped my chipset temps

Fitted the 40x40 block to a chipset that was cooking. Quiet under load now and the wide bore did not add restriction to a loop already running three blocks.
