Colour Is the Detail That Matters at Night. A grey infrared frame shows you that something happened. A colour frame shows you what it was. The Sentry Five pairs a Sony progressive scan CMOS sensor with dual-light colour night vision, so the image stays in colour across the range where ordinary cameras give up and switch to monochrome.
Five megapixels is the useful middle. It carries enough resolution to identify a face at a doorway and read a plate at the gate without the storage cost of a 4K stream. The 2.8 mm lens covers a wide approach rather than a narrow tube, which suits a front path, a driveway or a shop entrance where the subject arrives from an angle you cannot predict.
Structured for real installation. Power over Ethernet carries data and power down one RJ45 run, and two-way audio turns a recorder into a doorbell you can answer from anywhere. The IP66 housing and vandal-resistant build are rated for rain, dust and the kind of contact an entrance camera will eventually meet.
Evidence rather than atmosphere. A local alarm output integrates with the recorder you already own, infrared reaches thirty metres, and the sensor holds detail down to light levels where other units have already given up on colour. The camera exists to answer a question after the fact, and the answer is only useful if the image is legible.
Night footage without colour is a rumour. This one gives you a description.

Where the Sentry Five Belongs
It suits the one place in a building where the approach is predictable and the lighting is not: a front path, a driveway, a gate, a loading door. Households use the two-way audio to speak to visitors before opening the door. Small retailers place it over an entrance where a colour frame at two in the morning is worth more than a cleaner image that depends on floodlights. Integrators fit it wherever a single PoE cable is already run back to the recorder position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does colour night vision mean?
A: The camera carries its own light source and image processing so the frame stays in colour past dusk, instead of dropping to monochrome infrared the way a standard unit does.
Q: Will it work with my existing recorder?
A: It outputs a standard IP stream over Ethernet. Tell us your NVR model before ordering and we will confirm ONVIF compatibility.
Q: How is it powered?
A: Over Ethernet. One RJ45 cable carries both data and power, so no separate mains circuit is needed at the camera position.
Q: How far does night vision reach?
A: Infrared coverage reaches up to 30 metres, with colour rendering maintained in low light before the illuminators engage.
Q: Can I listen and speak through it?
A: Yes, two-way audio is supported through your recorder or client software.
Q: Is it weatherproof?
A: The housing is IP66 rated and built vandal-resistant for outdoor mounting.
Q: Is 5MP enough to identify someone?
A: At a doorway or gate at normal viewing distance, 5MP resolves a face and a plate. For identification beyond about 30 metres, choose the 8MP option in the same range.
Q: How many units can one recorder run?
A: Channel count and total bitrate decide it. Check your NVR specification, and note that a 5MP stream leaves more headroom than a 4K one, so more cameras fit on the same recorder.
Q: Do I need a specialist installer?
A: It is a single cable back to the recorder, so a competent DIY installation is realistic where the cable route is accessible. If the run crosses a cavity or a long span, use an installer.
Q: What happens if the recorder goes offline?
A: The camera does not store footage on its own unless the recorder or a card provides storage. Both power and recording come from the recorder, so put that unit on an uninterruptible supply if uptime matters.
