The difference between a vehicle and a mobile workstation is not the engine. It is the cabin environment at hour six of a ten-hour shift.

The Nomad Frost is a complete vehicle air conditioning system engineered for the machines that do not ship with factory AC — the delivery vans, the agricultural tractors, the mining trucks, the overland campers, the minibuses ferrying workers across industrial zones. These are not vehicles where comfort is a luxury. They are workplaces where thermal stress directly degrades operator alertness, decision latency, and error rate. A cabin at 45C is not uncomfortable — it is unsafe. The Nomad Frost addresses this not with a fan and a prayer but with a fully integrated vapor-compression cycle: compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion device, and refrigerant lines, designed for 12V and 24V DC electrical systems.

What distinguishes this system from the patchwork of aftermarket AC retrofits is integration integrity. The compressor is a DC-powered rotary unit matched to a parallel-flow microchannel condenser — the same architecture used in modern automotive OEM systems. The evaporator blower assembly is sized for cabin volumes up to 8 cubic meters, with a multi-speed fan control that allows the operator to balance cooling capacity against electrical load. Every fitting is O-ring sealed. Every bracket is steel, not stamped tin. The refrigerant is R-134a — globally available, legally compliant, and compatible with standard manifold gauge sets. Installation requires basic mechanical aptitude and a vacuum pump. That is the extent of the barrier between you and a climate-controlled cabin.

Comfort is not a feature. It is a safety system that operates continuously, silently, and without acknowledgment — until the moment it is absent.

Key Features

  • ✦ Dual-voltage 12V/24V DC electric compressor — compatible with truck, tractor, and marine electrical systems without inverter
  • ✦ Parallel-flow microchannel condenser with integrated electric fan — superior heat rejection compared to tube-and-fin designs
  • ✦ Multi-speed evaporator blower assembly — balance cooling output against available electrical budget
  • ✦ R-134a refrigerant compatibility — globally available, no specialized recovery equipment required
  • ✦ Complete installation kit: pre-crimped hoses, O-ring fittings, steel mounting brackets, wiring harness with relay and fuse
  • ✦ Rated for cabins up to 8 m3 — suitable for truck sleepers, van cargo areas, and minibus passenger compartments
  • ✦ Vibration-isolated compressor mounting — reduces cabin noise transmission through chassis

Application Scenarios

The Nomad Frost addresses a specific failure in the vehicle market: millions of commercial and agricultural vehicles worldwide are manufactured without factory air conditioning, yet operate in climates where cabin temperatures routinely exceed 40C. Delivery van drivers in Southeast Asia, tractor operators in Australian summers, minibus fleets in the Middle East, and overland expedition vehicles crossing Africa all share the same need — a reliable, self-contained AC system that does not depend on engine RPM or aftermarket inverter hardware. This kit is also increasingly specified for electric vehicle conversions where the factory HVAC system was designed around an ICE compressor that no longer exists — the DC electric compressor integrates directly into a 12V or 24V battery system without the efficiency losses of DC-to-AC inversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I install this myself, or do I need a professional?

A: If you can wire a relay, mount brackets, and operate a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set, you can install the Nomad Frost. The kit includes all hoses pre-crimped to length, eliminating the need for a crimping tool. The electrical side requires connecting the fused relay harness to the battery — no CAN bus integration, no ECU programming. The only specialized tool you need is a vacuum pump and R-134a gauge set, which any HVAC technician or well-equipped DIY garage has.

Q: How much current does the compressor draw?

A: At 12V, expect 40-55A under full load. At 24V, approximately 20-30A. This means the system requires a dedicated fused circuit directly from the battery — do not attempt to share an existing accessory circuit. For vehicles with small alternators (under 80A), consider upgrading the alternator or running the AC primarily while the engine is at operating RPM. The multi-speed fan control allows you to throttle cooling output if electrical headroom is tight.

Q: Will this work on a 24V truck electrical system without a converter?

A: Yes. The compressor is a dual-voltage unit rated for 12V and 24V DC input directly. No step-down converter is needed. The included relay and harness are rated for 24V operation. If your vehicle has a 24V starter battery and 12V accessory circuit, wire the compressor to the 24V side for maximum efficiency.

Q: How is this different from a portable evaporative cooler?

A: Fundamentally. Evaporative (swamp) coolers add moisture to the air and can only lower temperature by a few degrees — they are useless in high humidity and actively make the cabin feel worse. The Nomad Frost is a true vapor-compression refrigeration system: it removes heat from the cabin and rejects it outside, exactly like your car factory AC. It produces cold, dry air regardless of ambient humidity. The difference at 40C ambient is 8-10C from an evaporative cooler versus 20-25C from this system.

Q: What maintenance does the system require?

A: Annual inspection of condenser fins for debris buildup (clean with compressed air or fin comb), visual check of hose O-ring connections for oil residue (indicates slow leak), and verification of compressor mounting bolt torque. The closed refrigerant loop should not require recharging unless a leak develops. The condenser fan motor is sealed and requires no lubrication. Replace the cabin air filter on the evaporator intake every 6 months in dusty operating environments.

Perfect for an overland camper conversion

I build custom overland campers on medium-duty truck chassis and have been looking for a 12V AC solution that does not require an inverter or generator. The Nomad Frost is exactly that. Mounted the condenser under the chassis with a protective grill, evaporator in the sleeper compartment. At 12V, it draws about 48A on high, which our 200Ah lithium bank handles for 3-4 hours of continuous cooling — plenty for a night of camping. The multi-speed fan is useful because you can dial it down to low at night and the current draw drops to about 25A. Build quality on the compressor and condenser is better than I expected for the price point.

Works well on a 24V tractor — wiring is the only tricky part

Bought this for a John Deere 5075E that we use for long days during harvest season. The 24V system on the tractor was compatible directly — no converter needed, which was a big selling point. Cooling capacity is solid for a cab this size. The instructions are mostly diagrams without much text, so if you are not comfortable reading electrical schematics you might want to have an auto electrician handle the wiring. Once it is wired correctly, the system works like a proper automotive AC. Four stars because the hose lengths could be about a foot longer for tractor installations where the condenser has to be mounted further from the cab.

Installed in a delivery van — driver says it is life-changing

We run a small fleet of 8 delivery vans in Arizona and the ones without factory AC are basically ovens by 10am. Installed the Nomad Frost in one of our Ford Transits — took about 4 hours start to finish, including running the wiring and evacuating the system. The hardest part was mounting the condenser in a place with good airflow, but the brackets are flexible enough to adapt. After charging with R-134a, we got 42F at the vent on a 98F day. The driver said he actually looks forward to his route now. Ordering 3 more for the rest of the fleet.
