Diesel generator set battery maintenance tips

When the battery of the diesel generator set has not been used for a long time, it needs to be properly charged before use to ensure the normal capacity of the battery. Usually, the technician will evaporate part of the water in the battery during the normal operation and charging process; therefore, it is necessary to refill the battery of the unit from time to time. The first step before refilling is to clean the dirt around the filling port to prevent the dirt from falling off. Put it into the battery compartment, then open the filling port and add an appropriate amount of distilled water or pure water. Do not overfill it. Otherwise, when the battery is discharged/charged, the electrolyte inside the diesel engine will flow from the overflow hole of the filling port. Gushing out, causing corrosion damage to surrounding objects and the environment.

Diesel generator set is a kind of power equipment that uses diesel engine as prime mover and drives synchronous generator to generate electricity. This is a power generation device with quick start, convenient operation and maintenance, low investment and strong adaptability to the environment.

Avoid the battery to start the unit at low temperature, the battery capacity will not be able to output normally in low temperature environment, and long-term discharge may cause battery failure. The battery of the standby generator set should be regularly maintained and charged, and a float charger can be equipped.

Tips for diesel generator battery maintenance:

First, check whether the battery is charged normally. If you have a three-way meter, after starting the engine, measure the voltage of the two poles of the battery, it must be more than 13V to be considered normal. If you find that the charging voltage is too low, you need to ask a professional to overhaul the charging system.

If you don't have a three-way meter, you can use the visual method: after the engine is started, open the battery water cap to see if there are air bubbles in each small cell. The normal situation is that bubbles continue to emerge from the water surface, and the more you add fuel, the more it will bubble; if you find that there is no bubble, it is likely that the charging system is faulty. Special attention is that hydrogen gas will be produced during this inspection, so do not smoke during the inspection to avoid the danger of explosion and fire.

Second, open the battery water cap to see if the water level is in the normal position. Generally, there will be upper and lower limit lines on the side of the battery for your reference. If it is found that the water level is lower than the subscript line, distilled water must be added. If the distilled water is not available at once, you can use filtered tap water as an emergency. Do not add too much water, the standard is to add to the middle of the upper and lower lines.

Third, wipe the outside of the battery with a damp cloth, and wipe off the dust, oil, and white powder on the panel and the pile head that may cause leakage. In this way, the battery is often scrubbed, and the pile head of the battery will not accumulate white acid-etched powder, and its service life will be longer.
