the-nightwatch-8mp-poe-security-camera
The Nightwatch | 8MP PoE Security Camera with Dual Light

A camera that needs its own power cable at every corner is a camera you install once and never add to.

The awkward part of a home or small business camera system is rarely the camera. It is getting power to where the camera needs to be. Pulling a mains feed to the corner of a building, into a soffit, out to a gate post, is the expense that stops a two-camera plan from becoming a six-camera plan. Power over Ethernet removes that problem, because one cable carries both data and power.

The Nightwatch takes that approach and pairs it with an 8 megapixel sensor. The resolution matters for a specific reason: identification. A 1080p camera is adequate for seeing that someone approached a door, while an 8MP image is adequate for reading a registration plate or recognising a face at a useful distance. Storage is supported on board with a memory card, so the camera can record independently of a network video recorder.

Low-light performance is handled with dual illumination rather than infrared alone. Infrared gives monochrome footage and reflects badly off rain and glass. The white light mode produces colour images at night, which is often the difference between a usable and an unusable recording, while infrared remains available where colour would draw unwanted attention.

Human and vehicle detection runs on the camera rather than in the cloud, which means fewer false alerts from moving branches and passing cats. The housing is sealed to IP67, so a soffit, a gate post, or an exposed corner is a valid mounting position.

One cable, one camera, and no reason not to add the next one.

Key Features

✦ 8MP 4K Resolution
Detail sufficient for identification at distance, rather than merely confirming that something moved.

✦ Power over Ethernet
One cable carries power and data, so no mains supply is needed at the camera position.

✦ Dual Light Night Vision
White light for colour footage after dark, with infrared available where colour would attract attention.

✦ On-Camera Human and Vehicle Detection
Analytics run locally, which reduces false alerts from foliage and animals.

✦ IP67 Weatherproof Housing
Sealed against rain and dust for exterior mounting on soffits, posts and exposed corners.

✦ ONVIF Compatibility
Works with standard network video recorders and common surveillance software.

✦ On-Board Storage
A memory card slot allows standalone recording without a network recorder.

Technical Specifications

Resolution: 8 megapixel, 4K class

Power: Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Night Vision: Dual light, infrared plus white light colour mode

Detection: Human and vehicle detection on camera

Storage: Memory card slot, supports up to 256GB

Compatibility: ONVIF compatible with standard NVR platforms

Housing Rating: IP67 weatherproof

Audio: Built-in microphone

Network: Ethernet, PoE powered

Mounting: Wall and ceiling mount bracket

Where It Belongs

The Nightwatch suits property where running mains power to each camera position would be the dominant cost. A home perimeter with four corners is the obvious case, because PoE makes each additional camera a single cable run from a PoE switch. A small business premises with a yard, a side gate and a rear service door benefits from the same logic, and from on-camera detection that cuts the number of alerts an operator has to review. The colour night vision mode is useful at an entrance or a gate where identifying a person matters more than discretion, while infrared can be selected where a white light would be conspicuous.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does Power over Ethernet mean for installation?

A: A single Ethernet cable carries both power and data, so there is no need to run a mains supply to the camera.
