Description

A workshop floor tells you how a shop actually runs. When the air line lies across the concrete in three loose loops, every job picks up a few seconds of untangling, and a few seconds spread across a hundred jobs becomes an afternoon nobody bills for. The Tether Line ends that tax. One pull pays out fifty feet of hose. A short tug at the end sends it back into the drum on its own, guided by four rollers that keep the run from snagging on the way in, and an adjustable stopper lets you lock the hose at working length instead of dragging the full run across the bay.

The hose is where most reels cut corners, so it deserves the attention. This one is a hybrid polymer of rubber and PVC with a 3/8 inch bore, rated to 300 psi working pressure and fitted with 1/4 inch NPT threads at both ends, which means it accepts the quick couplers already sitting in your tool drawer. The blend holds flexibility from minus 4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit and resists UV and ozone, so it does not stiffen into a memory coil after a winter in an unheated garage. Hybrid construction also keeps the weight down without giving up burst resistance, which is the reason cheap PVC hoses fail at the crimp within a season.

The metalwork is stainless, and the double arm carries the drum without flex even when you pull hard at an angle. The bracket mounts to a wall, a ceiling joist, or the frame of a bench. A five foot lead hose reaches the supply line, a spring guard keeps the connection from bending at the point where hoses usually fail first, and a rubber sleeve protects the final stretch against abrasion. At 23 pounds the whole assembly hangs on two bolts, so a single person can install it. Four non-snag rollers, a replaceable stopper and a sealed spring cartridge keep the maintenance schedule close to zero.

Put the air where it belongs and the floor stops fighting back.

Where It Belongs

Auto shops, detailing vans, fabrication bays and home garages all share the same constraint: floor space is the most expensive square footage in the building. A wall mounted reel converts that constraint into a route. The hose lives overhead until the moment it is needed, the working area stays clear for lifts, jacks and rolling tool chests, and the retraction spring does the tidying at the end of every shift instead of a person with a coil in each hand.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: What working pressure does this reel handle?

The hose is rated at 300 psi working pressure with 1/4 inch NPT fittings on both ends. That covers standard shop compressors running impact guns, blow guns, spray equipment and die grinders.

Q: Will it connect to the couplers I already own?

Yes. Both ends use 1/4 inch NPT male threads, the fitting standard on most air tools and quick couplers sold in North America and Europe. No adapter is required for the common case.

Q: Can it be mounted outdoors or in an unheated garage?

The hybrid hose is rated from minus 4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit and resists UV and ozone. The drum and bracket are stainless, so a covered exterior wall or an unheated bay is within the design range.

Q: How much hose ships in the box?

A 50 ft working hose plus a 5 ft lead hose for the compressor connection, which leaves the drum free to sit well away from the supply.

Q: What keeps the hose from tangling on retraction?

Four non-snag rollers guide the hose as it winds, and the stopper can be repositioned to hold the hose at the length you actually use, which stops the drum from taking in the whole run on every job.

Q: Is one person enough to install it?

The complete assembly weighs 23 pounds and hangs on two fasteners. A single installer with a ladder can set it on a wall or a ceiling joist in under half an hour.

Solid reel, plan your mounting height

Good hardware and the spring guard at the connection point is a detail most reels skip. Only note is that you want to think about mounting height before drilling, because the stopper position is what decides your working reach. Retraction has been reliable for two months of daily use.

Bracket does not flex

I pull at bad angles constantly and the double arm has not budged. Installation was two bolts into a stud and about twenty minutes. The 1/4 NPT ends took my existing couplers with no adapter, which was the main reason I picked it.

Fifty feet that actually retracts

Mounted this on the wall between two bays and the difference is immediate. The hose pays out smooth, the stopper holds it at about twenty feet so I am not dragging the whole run under a car, and it winds back without the kink I used to fight. The hybrid hose stays soft in a cold garage, which my old PVC one never did.
