Description

Water Is Not a Commodity. It Is a Molecular Contract. Every glass of tap water carries invisible passengers — chlorine, heavy metal ions, bacterial fragments, and suspended particulates that municipal treatment plants were never designed to fully eliminate. The Pure Current addresses this at the membrane level. With a 0.01μm ultra-filtration pore size — one-tenth the diameter of the smallest bacteria — this stainless steel under-sink system creates a physical barrier that no pathogen can breach. It does not rely on chemical additives, does not strip beneficial minerals, and does not produce wastewater the way reverse osmosis systems do. It simply filters, at the molecular scale, with nothing but precision engineering standing between your family and what flows through the pipes.

The choice of 304 stainless steel for the housing is deliberate. Plastic filter housings — common in consumer-grade systems — leach microplastics over time and are susceptible to cracking under thermal cycling. Stainless steel is chemically inert, mechanically robust, and bacteriostatic. The GERWELL ultra-filtration membrane element inside is a hollow-fiber design that maximizes surface area within a compact form factor, delivering flow rates sufficient for a whole kitchen's demand — drinking water, cooking, coffee, ice — without the slow trickle that plagues countertop pitcher filters. Installation is under-sink, connected directly to the cold water line with standard fittings, making it invisible in daily use except for the quality of water it produces.

For households with aging plumbing infrastructure, private well water, or simply a desire to control what enters their bodies, the Pure Current is an infrastructure upgrade disguised as a kitchen appliance. It reduces 99.99% of chlorine, bacteria, cysts, and suspended solids while preserving the calcium and magnesium that give water its taste and nutritional value. The membrane is backflushable for extended service life, and the stainless housing will outlast every plastic alternative on the market. This is not a gadget — it is a permanent addition to the home's water architecture.

You can't see what's in your water. But you can decide what stays there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does UF compare to reverse osmosis (RO)?

Ultra-filtration uses a 0.01μm physical membrane barrier that removes bacteria, cysts, and particulates while preserving dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium. Reverse osmosis uses a much tighter membrane (~0.0001μm) that strips everything — including beneficial minerals — and produces 3–4 gallons of wastewater for every gallon of filtered water. UF is more water-efficient, maintains mineral content, and requires no electricity or pump.

Q: How often does the filter element need replacement?

Service life depends on incoming water quality and daily usage volume. Under typical municipal water conditions, the ultra-filtration membrane lasts 12–24 months before replacement. The backflush feature extends membrane life significantly — users should backflush monthly. Reduced flow rate is the primary indicator that replacement is needed.

Q: Does this system remove lead or heavy metals?

The 0.01μm UF membrane removes particulate-bound heavy metals (adsorbed onto suspended solids). For dissolved ionic heavy metals (like dissolved lead), an activated carbon pre-filter stage is recommended. The UF stage is the primary barrier for biological contaminants and turbidity.

Q: Can I install this myself without a plumber?

The system uses standard compression fittings compatible with common cold water supply lines (typically 3/8" or 1/2" flexible hoses). Basic plumbing confidence and a wrench are sufficient for most installations. The under-sink form factor means it occupies cabinet space without being visible on the countertop. A dedicated faucet for filtered water is recommended but not required — the system can feed the existing cold water line.

Solid build quality, wish it came with a dedicated faucet

The GERWELL UF membrane and stainless housing are clearly commercial-grade components. I've had plastic filter housings crack before — this thing is built like a plumbing fixture, not a disposable appliance. Water quality is excellent, no chlorine taste whatsoever. Took off one star only because I had to buy a separate dedicated faucet for the filtered water line. The filter itself is five-star quality.

Finally a filter that doesn't waste water

The zero-wastewater design was the deciding factor for me — I couldn't justify an RO system dumping 3 gallons for every 1 filtered. This UF system makes sense. The water tastes clean without that 'dead' taste RO water has. My tea brewing has improved noticeably. The stainless housing looks professional under the sink and the backflush feature is easy to use. Highly recommend for anyone concerned about water quality without the RO headaches.

Noticeably better water than my old RO system

Switched from a reverse osmosis system to this UF filter and the difference in water taste is immediately noticeable. The RO stripped everything including minerals — this keeps the good stuff while removing the bad. Installation under the sink took about 40 minutes with basic tools. The stainless housing is a serious piece of equipment, not a plastic toy. Flow rate is excellent, fills a pot in seconds.
