Description
A front trunk is a good idea that the factory left half finished. It holds what the rear trunk cannot: charging cables, a folded stroller, a bag of shopping that will not roll around. What it does not do is open and close itself, which means both hands occupied and a hood that has to be pressed shut with a firm hand on painted aluminium.
The SATONIC V6S converts that manual action into a powered one. Two gas struts replace the factory units, a control module drives them, and the result opens and closes on command. The V6S version adds app control, so the frunk can be opened from a phone before the driver reaches the car. Opening speed is adjustable, which matters more than it sounds: a frunk that rises too quickly on a cold morning is a frunk that slams.
Water and dust resistance is rated IPX6, the struts are metal rather than plastic-sleeved, and the installation is plug and play with tools supplied. Fitments are listed per model year because the mounting points and hood geometry differ across Model 3 and Model Y production runs, including Highland and the Austin and Berlin builds. That detail is the difference between a kit that fits and a kit that almost fits.
The kit is certified to CE and CCC and carries a one year warranty on damaged parts with free replacement shipping, which is the level of backing a powered mechanism deserves.
Convenience is not the feature. The feature is never touching a painted surface with a dirty hand again.
How the upgrade works
✦ Powered open and close. Two upgraded struts and a control module replace the manual hood action entirely, from the cabin, the app or the car.
✦ App control on V6S. The frunk can be opened before you reach the car, which is the version of this upgrade that actually changes a routine.
✦ Adjustable opening speed. Rise rate is tunable, so the hood behaves predictably in cold weather instead of snapping up.
✦ IPX6 water resistance. Rated for sustained water exposure, which is the minimum for hardware mounted in the front bumper area.
✦ Metal struts. Metal gas struts rather than plastic-sleeved alternatives, which is where cheap kits fail first.
✦ Plug and play install. Wiring and tools are supplied and no cutting is required, so the installation is reversible.
✦ Model-year fitments. Separate listings for Model 3 Highland, earlier Model 3, Model Y and the Austin and Berlin 2023 and later builds.

The ownership case
Owners who use the frunk daily are the ones who notice the difference: delivery drivers loading and unloading, parents folding a stroller in a car park, anyone who charges publicly and stores cables up front. Owners who rarely open it will not get much back for the money, and that is worth saying plainly. Installation is manageable for a confident DIY owner and routine for a workshop; the wiring is plug and play but the trim panels still have to come off carefully. Buyers in markets with harsh winters should note that gas struts behave differently in extreme cold regardless of brand, which is exactly why the opening speed is adjustable.
Owner questions
Q. Will it fit my Model Y?
Fitment is listed by model year and factory. Model Y from Austin or Berlin built in 2023 and later has a different mounting arrangement from earlier cars, so confirm the production year before ordering.
Q. Does the app need a subscription?
No. App control uses the local connection provided by the kit rather than a paid service, and the physical controls continue to work independently.
Q. Is the installation reversible?
Yes. The kit is plug and play with no cutting, so the original struts can be refitted if the car is sold or returned at the end of a lease.
Q. Can the hood still be closed manually?
The mechanism is designed for powered operation. Manual force should not be used to close it, because the struts and control module are calibrated for the motorised path.
Q. What happens in very cold weather?
Gas struts lose some force at low temperatures, which is why opening speed is adjustable. Set the rise rate for the climate the car is used in rather than the one it was delivered in.
Q. What does the warranty cover?
One year on damaged parts with free replacement shipping. Wear items and damage from incorrect installation or accident are not manufacturing faults.
Fitment confirmation before dispatch. Because this part is model-year specific, we confirm the vehicle year, factory and trim against the selected variant before the kit ships. If the order does not match the car, the question is raised before dispatch rather than after the trim panels are off.
