Description

A wall socket is infrastructure. It is noticed only when it is wrong: when the plug does not sit flush, when the USB port charges at the speed of a decade ago, when the panel has yellowed against a freshly painted wall. The Wall Anchor is the version of that piece of infrastructure that stops being invisible for the wrong reason.

The face is crystal glass rather than moulded plastic, which holds its colour and cleans with a wipe, and the plate is rated at 16 amperes with standard grounding, the ceiling of a domestic European circuit rather than its average. The layout options cover the practical set: a double French outlet, the same outlet with dual USB, and the same outlet with USB Type-C, finished in gold, black, white and grey. A waterproof variant covers balconies, utility rooms and bathrooms where splash is part of the environment rather than an accident.

Installation uses a standard European back box and a two-wire connection, which makes this a renovation item rather than a project. Replace the socket on a kitchen wall, add charging ports to a hallway outlet, or give a bedside point two jobs. The panel thickness is the detail that makes the finished wall look deliberate rather than retrofitted around a plastic plate.

Nobody thanks a wall socket. Everyone notices a bad one, every single day.

Where It Belongs

The Wall Anchor is for the renovation rather than the new build: a kitchen wall where the existing outlet is a cracked plastic plate, a hallway where a phone needs charging without a wall wart occupying the only socket, a hotel or guest room bedside point that has to serve a lamp and a device, a balcony or utility room that needs a splash-rated outlet, and a rental flat where the owner wants the sockets to match the new paint before a tenant moves in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the USB and the Type-C versions?

Both keep the double French outlet and add charging ports. The USB version provides standard USB charging sockets, while the Type-C version provides a USB Type-C port, which suits current phones, tablets and laptops that ship with a Type-C cable.

Q: Which regions use this socket standard?

This is the European standard used across Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and much of central and southern Europe, together with a number of countries that have adopted the same two-pin grounded layout.

Q: Is it suitable for a bathroom or balcony?

Yes, provided the waterproof variant is selected. The standard glass panel is intended for dry interior walls, while the waterproof version is built for utility rooms, balconies and bathrooms where splash is expected.

Q: What does the 16A rating support?

16 amperes is the standard domestic circuit rating in Europe, which covers a kettle, a washing machine, a dishwasher or a hair dryer on a single outlet, and it is the maximum a normal household circuit is designed to deliver.

Q: Does it need a back box?

Yes. It mounts into a standard European back box and connects with a two-wire plus ground connection, the same way the socket it replaces was fitted.

Q: Is the glass panel fragile?

The panel is tempered crystal glass, which is harder than moulded plastic and does not yellow, and it is mounted on a rigid frame behind the face. It is cleaned with a damp cloth rather than an abrasive.

Q: Can two of these be fitted side by side?

Yes, provided each is installed in its own back box. The plate follows the standard single outlet frame, so a pair sits at the conventional spacing used for double frames on a kitchen or hallway wall.

Q: Do the charging ports work when nothing is plugged into the socket?

Yes. The charging ports run from the same circuit as the outlet, so they are live whenever the circuit is live, whether or not a plug is inserted into the main socket beside them.

Q: How should the glass panel be cleaned?

With a damp cloth. The tempered glass face holds its finish and does not yellow the way moulded plastic does, and abrasive cleaners or scouring pads should be avoided to protect that surface.

Solid, order the right variant

Good quality glass and a firm grip on the plug, much better than the plastic ones they replaced. Just be sure whether you want USB, USB-C or the plain socket before ordering, as these are separate variants.

The gold finish was the right call

This is the detail people notice without knowing why the wall looks better. Installation was a straight swap into the existing back box, about ten minutes per socket.

Looks like part of the wall

Fitted four of these in a kitchen renovation and they read as fixtures rather than accessories. The glass face wipes clean, the sockets sit flush, and the Type-C port charges my phone without a wall adapter.
