Description

Comfort Is Not Felt. It Is Engineered. The air you breathe in a conference room, a server farm, a luxury retail atrium — it arrived there through a series of decisions made by engineers who understood that distribution is everything. The 100mm spherical nozzle sits at the terminal end of this decision chain. It is the final surface air touches before it enters the occupied zone, and its geometry determines whether that air arrives as a draft or a whisper, as a jet or a diffuse blanket. This is not a vent cover. This is the aerodynamic signature of a building's respiratory system.

Machined from aluminum alloy, the spherical nozzle achieves what plastic cannot: dimensional stability across a -20 degree C to +80 degree C operating range, zero deformation under continuous airflow pressure, and a surface finish that does not yellow, embrittle, or collect static dust over decades of service. The sphere-in-socket design provides 360-degree rotational adjustment with a 30-degree conical deflection range — the installer points the nozzle at the target zone, tightens the locking ring, and the airflow vector is committed. No drift. No sag. No plastic clips that snap during the third seasonal adjustment. This is commercial-grade air distribution hardware built to the standard of laboratories, not living rooms.

The 100mm (4-inch) throat diameter mates with standard spiral ductwork and flexible duct connectors. The polished aluminum finish registers as architectural, not industrial — it belongs in exposed-duct ceiling designs where the mechanical systems are part of the aesthetic, not something to hide above a drop ceiling. For HVAC contractors, the value proposition is straightforward: one spherical nozzle replaces a conventional grille, a volume control damper, and the labor to install and balance all three. For building occupants, the value is invisible — which is precisely the point. When air distribution is done right, no one notices. They simply feel comfortable and assume the building is well-designed. The Aerodynamicist is why.

You do not see it working. You only notice when it is not there.

Key Features

  • 360-Degree Rotational Sphere Design: The spherical nozzle rotates freely within its mounting ring for omnidirectional aiming, with a 30-degree conical deflection angle for precise throw pattern adjustment. Lock the position with the integrated tightening mechanism — no tools needed after initial mounting.
  • Aircraft-Grade Aluminum Alloy Construction: Unlike plastic grilles that warp, yellow, and collect static dust, the aluminum body maintains dimensional stability from -20 degree C to +80 degree C. The polished finish is corrosion-resistant and suitable for exposed-duct architectural installations.
  • 100mm (4-inch) Standard Throat Diameter: Compatible with standard spiral ductwork, flexible duct connectors, and plenum boxes. The circular mounting flange accepts screws or rivets for secure ceiling or wall installation.
  • Long-Throw Aerodynamic Profile: The internally contoured nozzle geometry accelerates airflow for extended throw distances — ideal for high-ceiling spaces, atriums, auditoriums, and industrial facilities where air must travel 5-15 meters before entering the occupied zone.
  • Low-Noise Operation: The smooth internal bore eliminates the turbulence and whistling associated with louvered grilles. At design airflow rates, the noise contribution is below NC-25 — effectively silent in most occupied spaces.

Where Precision Airflow Matters

The Aerodynamicist serves applications where air distribution is a performance requirement, not an afterthought. In data centers, where hot-aisle/cold-aisle containment depends on precise throw patterns, the spherical nozzle delivers cooling air exactly where server intake temperatures demand it. In commercial kitchens, where makeup air must offset powerful exhaust hoods without creating drafts that extinguish pilot lights, the long-throw geometry reaches the target zone from ceiling height. In architectural spaces with exposed ductwork — brewpubs, co-working spaces, high-end retail — the polished aluminum finish reads as design intent rather than mechanical compromise. HVAC contractors value the single-component installation: mount the ring, insert the sphere, aim, and lock. No separate volume damper, no grille, no balancing labor. For facility managers, the all-aluminum construction means a 20-year service life with zero plastic degradation, zero static dust accumulation, and zero callbacks for cracked grille blades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What duct sizes does this nozzle connect to?

A: The 100mm (4-inch) throat diameter mates with standard 100mm spiral ductwork and flexible duct connectors. For larger duct diameters, use a reducer fitting (not included). The mounting ring accepts standard sheet metal screws or pop rivets for attachment to duct flanges, plenum boxes, or ceiling panels.

Q: Can this be used for exhaust air as well as supply air?

A: Yes. The spherical nozzle is bidirectional and functions equally well in supply, fresh air intake, and exhaust applications. The aerodynamic profile is symmetric — airflow direction is determined by system pressure, not nozzle geometry. For exhaust applications, simply mount the nozzle facing into the space and connect the duct to the exhaust side.

Q: Does the aluminum finish require maintenance?

A: The polished aluminum surface is naturally corrosion-resistant and does not require painting or coating. For dusty environments, occasional wiping with a dry microfiber cloth maintains the appearance. Unlike painted steel grilles, there is no paint to chip, peel, or rust through. In coastal or high-humidity installations, the aluminum alloy's oxide layer provides inherent protection — no additional treatment is needed.

Q: How does the locking mechanism work?

A: The sphere is held in the mounting ring by friction. Once you have aimed the nozzle at the desired angle, tighten the locking screw on the side of the mounting ring. This compresses the ring against the sphere, fixing it in position. The lock is mechanical — no adhesives, no plastic detents that wear out. To readjust, loosen the screw, reposition the sphere, and re-tighten.

Q: What is the maximum recommended airflow rate?

A: For a 100mm throat diameter, the typical design airflow range is 50-150 cubic meters per hour (30-90 CFM) for comfort applications. The nozzle can handle higher velocities for industrial or process applications, but noise levels increase above 150 m3/h. Consult your HVAC engineer for system-specific CFM requirements and pressure drop calculations.

Good nozzle, mounting ring could be thicker

Used these in a commercial kitchen ventilation project for makeup air injection over the cooking line. The spherical design lets you dial in exactly where the air goes. Performance-wise, these are excellent. My only gripe: the mounting ring gauge could be slightly thicker. Not a dealbreaker, I will still spec these on the next restaurant project.

Solved a persistent hot spot in our server room

Our small data center had a hot spot near the third rack we could not solve with conventional grilles. Swapped in four spherical nozzles aimed at the server intake vents and the temperature delta dropped from 14 degrees F to 4 degrees F within an hour. The long-throw geometry is the key. All-aluminum construction means no plastic degradation from constant airflow.

Perfect for exposed duct installations

I am an HVAC contractor specifying these spherical nozzles for commercial projects where ductwork is exposed: breweries, coffee shops, co-working spaces. The aluminum finish looks architectural, not industrial. 360-degree rotation lets me aim each nozzle precisely during balancing. I have installed about 40 of these across three projects and they have become my default specification.
