Description

A garage floor is the most expensive storage space in a house. Every square metre of it costs the same to build, heat and sweep as the rooms it is attached to, and yet it is usually occupied by four wheels that are not in use for half the year. The wall-mounted rack in this listing moves that storage to where it costs nothing: two hundred millimetres off the wall, above the bonnet line, under a shelf, or across a joist in a workshop bay.

The structure is Q235 steel with a powder-coated finish and it is rated to 136 kilograms, or three hundred pounds, across four standard tyres. Length is adjustable between thirty-two and forty-eight inches, which covers the span from a compact car to a light truck, and the compatible tyre range runs from R14 to R20 with a maximum product footprint of 1440 by 550 by 550 millimetres. The folding version swings flat against the wall when the wheels go back on the car, which is the difference between a rack that is always in the way and one that disappears for the season.

Installation is four fixings into studs, masonry or a steel rail, and the frame is 8.3 kilograms including accessories, so it can be hung by one person with the wheels added afterwards. Two configurations are offered: the folding model for a bay that has to stay clear, and the fixed model where the rack is likely to stay loaded year round.

Floor space in a garage is not storage. It is the most expensive shelf in the building.

Where It Belongs

Anyone who keeps a second set of wheels knows the ritual: four tyres stacked in a corner, moved every time the lawnmower needs to come out, and eventually used as a shelf for something else. This rack is for that exact problem. In a home garage it holds the winter set through summer and takes the pressure off the floor beside the door. In a workshop or tyre bay it stacks four wheels per rack at a height that keeps the floor clear for a lift or a bench, and several racks turn a wall into a storage system. In a dealership or a repair shop it moves the seasonal stock off the parts room floor, and because the length is adjustable it can be re-fitted to a different wall without a new purchase. The folding model suits a single-bay garage where the car still has to go in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will it hold a set of four SUV tyres?

A: The rack is rated to 136 kg (300 lbs), which covers four standard tyres, and it accepts sizes from R14 to R20. For heavy commercial or run-flat tyres, check the combined weight of the set against the rating before loading.

Q: Does the folding model take less space?

A: Yes. The folding version swings flat against the wall, so a bay that needs to stay clear can recover its width for the season when the tyres are back on the car. The non-folding model suits a position where the rack stays loaded year round.

Q: What wall does it need to be fixed to?

A: It is a wall-mounted rack fixed at four points. Studs, masonry or a steel rail all work; the supplied accessories and the 8.3 kg frame weight mean it can be positioned by one person before the tyres are loaded.

Q: How far does it stick out from the wall?

A: The maximum product footprint is 1440 x 550 x 550 mm, so the loaded projection is roughly half a metre at the largest adjustment, and the folding version returns to a flat profile against the wall.

Q: Can I cut it down to a smaller span?

A: The length adjusts between 32 and 48 inches without cutting. If your available wall is shorter than 32 inches, a different mounting position is the better answer than modifying the frame.

Q: Is the powder coating enough for a damp garage?

A: The Q235 steel is powder coated to resist rust and corrosion, which suits a normal garage or workshop environment. In a very damp or coastal location, keeping the tyres dry and wiping the frame occasionally will extend the finish.

Adjustable length made it fit the wall I had

The span adjusts between 32 and 48 inches, which let me hang it between two studs without cutting anything. Powder coating has survived a winter in an unheated garage with no rust showing.

Buy the folding version if the bay has to stay usable

The fixed model I ordered first was always in the way when the car came in, so I swapped to the folding one which swings flat against the wall for the season. Both are solid steel, the folding version just suits a single bay better.

Four wheels off the garage floor at last

The winter set used to live in a corner and get moved constantly. Now they sit on the wall above the bonnet line, the floor is clear, and the rack took one person and four fixings to hang. The 300 lb rating is more than my set needs.
