Description

A room can be changed in four seconds. The Orrery is a two in one projector and night light that throws a rotating galaxy across a ceiling, a wall or the inside of a car roof, with a slide carousel that swaps the scene from nebulae to planets to constellations without touching a screen. It exists for the hour before sleep, when the last thing anyone looks at should be something worth looking at.

The unit runs on 36 volts with an adjustable brightness dial that steps from a faint amber glow up to a full projection wash, and the light source is rated for long service with no bulb replacements. Each configuration ships with a different slide count, from a single random disc up to a twenty four slide carousel, and the touch models add direct brightness and rotation control on the body of the lamp rather than a remote. Luminous flux sits below 60 lumens, which is deliberately low: enough to read the ceiling by, dim enough that eyes adjust and stay that way.

Setup takes under a minute. Place the lamp on a flat surface or use it handheld, rotate the head to aim the projection, then dial brightness to taste. The rectangular body is compact enough for a bedside table, a bookshelf or a car console, and the opaque housing means no light leaks sideways to disturb a partner who is already asleep. For younger children the projection doubles as a night light that removes the fear of a dark room without the harsh glow of a standard lamp.

Sleep arrives faster when the ceiling looks like a night sky.

Who It Is For

This lamp suits children who need a gentle night light, adults who want a bedroom that winds down without screens, and anyone buying a gift that lands well without knowing the recipient's taste in decor. It also works as an atmosphere piece for car interiors and small studios, and photographers shooting lifestyle content will find the projected sky reads clearly on camera. Gift buyers stock this as a birthday and holiday item because the presentation is visual the moment the box is opened.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many slides do I need?

A single random slide is enough to test the effect. The twenty four slide carousel is the better choice for a child who wants variety, and the touch models suit adults who want to control rotation from the bed.

Q: Is it bright enough to read by?

It is designed as a low light projector and night light rather than a reading lamp. The projection brightens a ceiling pleasantly, but it will not replace a desk lamp.

Q: Can I use it in a car?

Yes. The compact rectangular body sits on a console or dashboard shelf, and the head aims upward to fill the roof of the cabin.

Q: Does it need batteries or a cable?

Batteries are not included, which keeps the shipping weight down and lets you choose your own rechargeable cells.

Q: Will it disturb someone sleeping next to me?

The housing is opaque and directional, so light projects away from the bed rather than spilling sideways. Keep the brightness low for shared rooms.

Q: Is it suitable for a nursery?

Yes. The low luminous output and warm tone are gentle for young children, and the projection gives them something familiar to look at while falling asleep.

Lives in the car as well as the bedroom

We bought it for a child who will not settle without something on the ceiling, and it now travels with us because it runs off the car supply as easily as the wall. The projection is sharp on a flat ceiling but you want the unit on a level surface, otherwise the rotation drifts and the edge softens, which is the only reason for four stars. The amber low setting is warm enough that it does not wake anyone while still throwing enough light to find the door.

The slide carousel is what separates it from every other projector

Most of these project a single fixed pattern, so the carousel is the reason I picked this one: my daughter swaps from nebulae to the constellation slides herself before bed and the whole ceiling changes in a few seconds without any app involved. The brightness dial goes low enough that it works as a night light rather than a light show, which is the setting we actually use on school nights. The 36 volt supply runs it cool, and at roughly an hour a night I have no worry about the light source failing.

Low output as described

It is a night light rather than a reading lamp and the listing says so plainly. The brightness dial runs from barely visible all the way up to a good ceiling wash.

Used it in the car on a road trip

Sat it on the console and filled the roof of the car with stars for two hours. The rotation is quiet enough that the children fell asleep before we reached the services.

She asks for it every night

Four weeks in and bedtime is a different routine in our house. The 24 slide carousel means she picks a new sky each evening and the low brightness still lets her settle.
