Description

The Work Is Not the Enemy. Friction Is.

Every stalled project has the same anatomy. A screw that will not bite. A hole that drifts two millimetres off the mark. A shelf that refuses to sit level because the bracket behind it has shifted. None of these are failures of ambition; they are failures of torque, alignment and patience — the three things a hand tool cannot give you and a bad power tool only pretends to. The Ironwright was built to remove that specific class of frustration from the workbench.

Its 21V lithium-ion platform delivers 45 newton-metres of peak torque through a 25+1 position clutch, so the last turn of a screw is a decision rather than an accident. The two-stage gearbox runs from 0-400 RPM for driving and 0-2700 RPM for boring, selected by how far you pull the trigger rather than by a switch you have to hunt for with a gloved hand. A 3/8-inch keyless chuck takes bits without a chuck key, and the honest capacity figures are 23mm in wood and 10mm in steel — numbers you can plan a job around. It is not a masonry hammer drill, and it does not pretend to be.

The rest is the discipline of small details. An LED collar lights the inside of a cabinet where the work actually happens. A forward and reverse lever sits under the thumb for fast withdrawal of a screw that has gone in at the wrong angle. A trigger lock prevents the tool from starting inside a bag or against a workpiece. The 1.5Ah battery charges in 90 minutes on the supplied fast charger, and the 29-piece accessory set means the first job does not begin with a trip to the hardware shop. Choose the single-battery kit for occasional repairs, or the two-battery kit so one pack charges while the other works.

A drill does not make you a craftsman. It removes the excuses that keep you from becoming one.

Key Features

  • ✦ 21V lithium-ion platform: 45Nm peak torque with a 1.5Ah pack and a 90-minute fast charger.
  • ✦ 25+1 torque clutch: twenty-five driving positions plus drill mode, so small screws stop before the head strips.
  • ✦ Two-speed gearbox: 0-400 RPM for controlled driving, 0-2700 RPM for drilling, both on a variable-speed trigger.
  • ✦ 3/8-inch keyless chuck: bit changes by hand, no key to lose.
  • ✦ Real capacity figures: 23mm in wood and 10mm in steel, stated honestly rather than inflated.
  • ✦ LED work light: illuminates the workpiece in cabinets, under sinks and inside frames.
  • ✦ Forward, reverse and trigger lock: fast withdrawal of mis-set screws and safe storage between tasks.
  • ✦ 29-piece accessory kit: drill bits, screwdriver bits and the fittings needed to start work immediately.

Where It Belongs

This is the tool that lives in the cupboard of a flat that was never meant to be renovated, and in the van of the fitter who installs three kitchens a week. It hangs a shelf, assembles flat-pack furniture without stripping a cam lock, drives decking screws, drills pilot holes for hinges, and opens the casing of an appliance that has stopped working. It is the correct answer for wood, board, plastic and light steel; for masonry, brick and concrete you need a hammer drill, and choosing this one for those materials would be a mistake the tool cannot fix. The two-battery kit exists for people who work until the job is finished rather than until the pack runs flat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can this drill be used on brick or concrete walls?

A: No. It is a drill driver rated for 23mm in wood and 10mm in steel. It has no hammer action, so masonry requires a separate hammer drill and masonry bits. Using it on brick will burn the bit and shorten the motor life.

Q: How long does the battery actually last?

A: The 1.5Ah pack charges in about 90 minutes and covers a typical domestic session of shelf hanging, furniture assembly or light drilling. For continuous site work, choose the two-battery variant so one pack charges while the other is in use.

Q: What does the 25+1 clutch do?

A: Each of the 25 numbered positions caps the torque the chuck will deliver, so a screw stops turning at a set depth of resistance instead of stripping its head or crushing soft timber. The extra position is drill mode, which bypasses the clutch for full torque.

Q: Which chuck size does it take?

A: A 3/8-inch keyless chuck, which accepts standard round-shank and hex-shank bits up to that capacity. It tightens by hand, so there is no chuck key to lose.

Q: Is the 29-piece accessory set included with both kits?

A: Yes. The 29-piece bit and driver set ships with the single-battery and the two-battery version; the only difference between the variants is the number of battery packs supplied and the body colour.

Q: How do I choose between the two speeds?

A: Low gear, 0-400 RPM, gives control for driving screws and boring large holes. High gear, 0-2700 RPM, suits small pilot holes and fast drilling in wood and light steel. Speed is set by the gear selector and modulated by trigger pressure.

Good drill, just not a masonry tool

For wood and light metal it is excellent, 23mm holes in pine were no trouble at all and the keyless chuck grips tightly without a key. I tried it on a brick wall once and quickly learned it has no hammer action, which is my mistake not the tool's. Battery life is fine for domestic jobs.

Charges fast and the kit is complete

Ninety minutes on the charger is accurate and the 1.5Ah pack lasted a full afternoon of shelf hanging and pilot holes. The 29 piece set had every bit I needed for wood and light steel, so I did not have to make a hardware run mid job. Two speed gearbox is smooth, low gear gives real control.

The clutch is the whole point

I assembled two wardrobes and a bed frame with this and did not strip a single cam lock. Setting the 25 position clutch means the screw stops at the right depth instead of crushing the board, which is where my old drill ruined furniture. The LED light was genuinely useful inside the carcass.
