Description

Fog is the cheapest atmosphere available to anyone decorating a room, and the most common way to get it wrong is to buy a machine that costs more than the party and sounds like a kettle. This unit takes the opposite approach: a small ultrasonic head that sits in any watertight vessel and turns the water above it into a slow, low drift of mist, with twelve LEDs rotating through colour inside the same housing so the fog arrives already lit.

Ultrasonic misting means no heat and no chemicals. A ceramic disc vibrates at high frequency and throws tiny droplets into the air at a rate of 350 millilitres per hour or more, which is enough to fill a bowl, a pumpkin, a planter or a fountain tray with visible movement without soaking the surfaces around it. A splash guard sits over the head to keep larger droplets where they belong, and a low water level sensor cuts the power automatically the moment the water drops too far, so the disc is never asked to run dry.

The one instruction worth reading twice concerns the water itself. Because the sensor and the misting behaviour both depend on conductivity, the unit should not be run on pure or distilled drinking water; adding a small amount of detergent to plain tap water settles it. Operation is otherwise a matter of submerging the metal head, keeping the water level one to two centimetres above the sensor on the upper edge, and switching on. The long power lead is supplied, and the CE certified housing is alloy rather than the thin plastic used on cheaper mist makers.

Atmosphere is not bought in a machine. It is bought in the thirty seconds it takes a bowl of water to disappear into the air.

What Sets It Apart

  • ✦ Ultrasonic misting head producing 350 ml per hour or more, with no heat and no chemicals
  • ✦ Twelve built-in LEDs rotating through colour, so the mist is illuminated as it rises
  • ✦ Low water level sensor that switches the unit off automatically before the disc runs dry
  • ✦ Removable splash guard and non-slip seating to keep larger droplets contained
  • ✦ Alloy housing rated CE, in place of the thin plastic used on budget mist makers
  • ✦ Long power lead supplied, with a European plug fitted for immediate use
  • ✦ Works in any watertight vessel: bowls, planters, fountains, pumpkins and terrariums

Where It Belongs

In October the unit is dropped into a hollowed pumpkin or a dark bowl on a porch table, where the twelve LEDs turn the rising mist orange, green and violet and the whole arrangement is visible from the end of the path. In a shop or a bar it sits in a shallow tray at the foot of a display, moving visible air across a window without the heat and noise of a conventional fog machine. Aquarium and terrarium keepers use it for humidity, bonsai owners use it to keep moss and top dressing damp through dry indoor months, and anyone with a tabletop water feature uses it to make the water visible at all. The low water sensor matters most in exactly those slow-burn cases: a mist maker left running on a shelf while the family is in another room will shut itself down rather than overheat the disc, which is the difference between a decoration and an oversight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why can it not run on pure or distilled water?

A: The ultrasonic misting behaviour and the water level sensing both depend on the conductivity of the water. Pure and distilled water do not mist reliably, so use tap water, and if the supply is very soft add a small amount of detergent to it.

Q: How much water should be above the head?

A: Keep the water level one to two centimetres above the sensor on the upper edge of the head. Submerge the metal head first, then switch on, and top up before the level falls away from the sensor.

Q: Does it need a fog liquid or chemical additive?

A: No. There is nothing to add: the mist is produced by an ultrasonic disc in plain water, with no heat and no chemical fog fluid, which also means no odour and no residue on nearby surfaces.

Q: Is it safe to leave running unattended?

A: The low water level sensor shuts the unit down automatically when the water falls too low, which is precisely the situation that occurs when it is left running while the room is empty. The splash guard also limits droplets thrown beyond the vessel.

Q: How large a space will it fill?

A: It is a mini fogger rather than a stage machine, and it is best judged by the vessel it sits in: it turns a bowl, a planter or a fountain tray into a visible cloud, and it will not fill a large hall the way a heated fog machine does.

Q: What is the occasion coverage?

A: Halloween and Christmas displays are the seasonal use, but the same head serves Eid, wedding and engagement styling, birthdays, gender reveal parties and any other event that wants low, moving mist over a table.

Small, quiet, does one thing well

It is a mini fogger and it makes a bowl of water disappear into the air very convincingly. Do not expect it to fill a hall, that is not what it is. The long lead is a nice touch for reaching a table.

Read the note about the water first

Would not mist on filtered water until I added a drop of detergent, exactly as the instructions say. Once that was sorted it produced a steady cloud for hours. Also using it on a bonsai tray through the dry months.

Filled a bowl with mist in seconds

Dropped it into a shallow planter and the twelve LEDs turned the mist orange and violet. The low water cut-off saved me twice when I forgot it was running on the shelf. The alloy housing feels far better than the plastic ones I have replaced.
