Description

Bad lighting is not a camera problem, and no lens will fix it. A ring light solves the single hardest thing about shooting alone: putting a large, even, controllable source exactly where the camera is looking. The Daylight Ring is an 18 inch fixture at 36 watts, which is the size where the source stops reading as a small bright dot and starts wrapping around a face.

Colour temperature runs from 2700K to 6500K, so the same fixture covers the warm, low-light look of an evening stream and the cool daylight needed to match a window or a product shoot. Dimming is stepless across 10 to 100 per cent, which matters more than it sounds, because a light that only steps in coarse increments cannot be matched to an existing room. Colour rendering is rated above RA 95, so skin tones and product colours come back the way they looked to the eye rather than slightly off.

Mounting options cover most of the ways people actually shoot. Tripods run from 100 centimetres up to 200 centimetres, wall brackets come in 135 and 170 centimetre lengths for a permanent studio corner, and a desktop tripod handles close product work. The light rotates a full 360 degrees, and the ball head plus phone clip mean the phone and the light can be aimed independently, which is what you need for overhead filming or a tilted beauty angle. Power is mains only at 100 to 240 volts, with EU, UK, US and AU plug standards, and constant current drive keeps heat low with no ultraviolet or infrared output.

Fix the light and half of your editing stops being necessary.

What People Actually Shoot With It

This light is bought by people who shoot on their own and have run out of patience with windows. A streamer or YouTuber uses the 184cm or 200cm stand to bring the source to eye level, which is where a ring light produces the even catchlight in the eyes that viewers read as professional. A beauty creator works closer with the desktop tripod and the ball head angled down. A seller photographing products uses the 6500K setting to match a white background and RA 95 or better to keep colours honest. A studio corner with a wall bracket keeps the light off the floor and out of the way between shoots.

Setup Questions

Q: Which mounting option should I choose?

Pick a 184cm or 200cm tripod for standing or seated filming at eye level, a 100cm or 150cm tripod for table work, a 135cm or 170cm wall bracket for a permanent studio position, or the desktop tripod for close product shots. A no-tripod option is also available if you already own a stand.

Q: Can it run on battery?

No. The light is mains powered at 100 to 240 volts with constant current drive, and no battery is included. That is what allows the 36W output to stay steady through a long session.

Q: How does the light help with skin tones?

Colour rendering is rated above RA 95, so colours are reproduced close to how they look to the eye. This is the number that matters most for beauty work and product photography.

Q: Can I use it for a product booth?

Yes. The 2700K to 6500K range lets you match a warm interior or a neutral white background, and stepless dimming means you can fine-tune the exposure without moving the light.

Q: Is the heat a problem for long streams?

The fixture uses constant current drive, which keeps running temperature low, and it emits no ultraviolet or infrared radiation. Long sessions do not bake the subject.

Q: What plugs are supported?

EU, UK, US and AU plug standards are offered, so choose the one matching your country.

Q: Will my phone fit the clip?

The ball head and phone clip are included and suit most smartphones and mini tablets. The clip holds the phone while the light rotates independently, which is what allows overhead or angled framing.

The 200cm stand is the right height

At this diameter you want the centre of the ring at eye level and the taller stand gets it there comfortably. The ball head lets me angle the phone separately from the light, which is what I needed for overhead product shots.

Mains powered, and that is the trade

It is not a battery light, which I would have liked for outdoor shoots, but running from the wall means the 36W output never drops off mid-session, which matters more for my studio work. Stepless dimming is far more useful than the three-step buttons on my old light.

RA95 shows in the skin tones

Went from a cheap panel to this and the difference in skin tone is immediate. Foundation and lip colour finally match what my eyes see, and the 6500K setting matches my window light so I can film at any hour without a colour shift between clips.
