Description

The first months of a baby's life are measured in two-hour blocks, and most of that time is spent at arm's length from a crib. The Night Watch is built around that geometry. Its frame sits level with an adult mattress, the side panel drops toward the bed, and the sleeping surface is a rigid, flat base rather than a soft depression. A parent can reach a hand across without standing up, which is the entire point of a bedside sleeper.

The mesh window runs the full length of both long sides, and it is structural mesh on a frame, not a fabric panel stretched over an opening. Air moves through it, and so does line of sight. That matters more than the marketing usually admits, because a sleeper that hides the baby forces a parent to sit up and lean over, which defeats the design. The base sits at a fixed incline-free angle, flat and firm, in line with safe sleep guidance.

Assembly uses locking pins rather than tool-tightened bolts, so the unit can be set up beside a bed, folded down for travel and re-erected in a hotel room without a screwdriver. The fabric shell removes for washing. The frame folds to a footprint that fits in a car boot, which is why this crib ends up on more weekend trips than the nursery furniture it replaced.

Sleep is not a luxury for a newborn. It is the whole job. This is the furniture that makes it possible for everyone else in the room.

What Sets It Apart

  • ✦Firm flat sleeping base with no incline, in line with safe sleep guidance
  • ✦Tool-free locking pin assembly, folds flat for travel in under a minute
  • ✦Removable, machine washable fabric shell over a rigid frame
  • ✦Drop-side panel for night feeding without lifting the baby out of reach
  • ✦Compact folded footprint that fits a car boot or an overhead locker on most airlines

Where It Belongs

This sleeper suits parents who intend to keep the baby in the bedroom for the first months rather than a separate nursery, and it suits households that travel. It also fits homes where space is genuinely tight, because the footprint at the bedside is narrower than a standard crib. Placed next to an adult bed, in a hotel room, or in a grandparent's spare room, the setup is the same and takes about a minute.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Is the mattress firm enough for a newborn?

A: Yes. The included pad is rigid and flat with no incline and no soft contouring, which is what safe sleep guidance asks for in the first months.

Q: Can the height be matched to my bed?

A: The frame adjusts through several positions. Measure from floor to the top of your mattress before ordering, since very high or adjustable beds may sit outside the range.

Q: Does the mesh side open completely?

A: The panel drops toward the adult bed so a parent can reach across without standing. It does not detach entirely, which keeps the frame rigid at night.

Q: How long can a baby use it?

A: Until roughly six months, or sooner if the baby can sit up unaided. At that point the child should move to a cot.

Q: Is it approved for overnight sleep?

A: It is designed as a bedside bassinet with a firm flat base. Check your local safety standard before use if you are outside the markets this pattern was built for.

Q: How small does it fold?

A: The frame collapses to a flat bundle with the mattress rolled inside. It fits a standard car boot and travels as checked luggage.

Firm base, check your bed height

The sleeping surface is rigid and flat which is what we wanted. Our bed is quite high so the frame sits a little below the mattress, but it still works for night feeds.

Took it to my parents for a week

Folds flat in about a minute and went in the boot with the luggage. Set it up in a spare room at the same height as their bed without any tools.

The drop side is the whole reason

We kept our first baby in a separate crib and took turns standing up all night. With this one beside the bed I can reach across without getting up, and the mesh means I can see her from the pillow.
