Description
Most security footage is useless for the one thing it exists to do: identifying a face, a plate, or a badge at the distance the camera actually covers. A 2MP camera on a doorway is enough to prove something happened. It is rarely enough to prove who.
Eight megapixels at 4K changes that arithmetic. On a 2.8mm lens it covers a wide entrance with enough pixel density to read a face at the door; on the 3.6mm lens it narrows the field and reaches further down a driveway or a loading bay. The sensor is Sony CMOS with a minimum illumination of 0.001 lux at F1.2, which is why the image holds detail after dark instead of dissolving into noise the moment the streetlight dims.
The housing is the part most buyers underestimate. An aluminium alloy dome rated IK10 survives a hammer blow that would shatter a plastic camera and take the recording with it, and IP67 sealing handles rain, hose-downs and dust without fogging. IK10 is an impact rating, not an explosive-atmosphere certification, so this is a camera for hostile weather and hostile people rather than for hazardous gas zones.
Compression is H.265, which roughly halves the bitrate of an equivalent H.264 stream. In practice that decides whether a 4K camera is practical on your NVR: the same disk holds twice the retention, and the same PoE switch carries the stream without saturating the uplink. Power arrives over the same single cable, 48 to 55 volts PoE, with a DC12V 2A option for installations that already have local power.
ONVIF compliance means it does not have to live inside one vendor's app. It will record to a standard NVR, stream to a Synology or Blue Iris instance, and still support the P2P phone view when you want to check the driveway from an airport. Face detection runs on the camera rather than the recorder, so an alert fires even if nothing is recording at that moment.
Anyone can install a camera. The point is what the footage is worth six months later.
Key Features
- 8MP 4K resolution. Enough pixel density to identify a face or a plate at doorway distance, not just record a shape.
- IK10 vandal-proof housing. Aluminium alloy dome that survives impact that destroys plastic cameras.
- IP67 weather sealing. Rated for rain, dust and washdown, indoor and outdoor installation.
- Sony CMOS at 0.001 lux. Low-light performance that keeps colour and detail after dark.
- H.265 compression. Roughly half the bitrate of H.264, doubling retention on the same disk.
- PoE single-cable install. 48 to 55V PoE for power and data, with DC12V 2A as an alternative.
- On-camera face detection. Alerts generated by the camera, independent of the recorder.
- ONVIF compatible. Records to standard NVRs and third-party software, not just one vendor app.

Where It Belongs
It suits the places where a camera has to survive as well as observe: an entrance porch, a shop doorway, a warehouse loading bay, a car park column, or a school corridor where anything mounted at reachable height will be tested. The 2.8mm lens is the right choice for a doorway where you need a wide field, and the 3.6mm version for a driveway or yard where identification happens further out. Installers fitting a mixed-brand NVR benefit from ONVIF more than from any single feature on this list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does explosion-proof mean it can be used in hazardous gas areas?
A: No. The housing is rated IK10 for impact resistance and IP67 for water and dust, which covers hostile weather and vandalism. It is not certified for explosive atmospheres, and we would not represent it as such.
Q: Which lens should I choose?
A: 2.8mm for a wide view of a doorway or small room at short range, 3.6mm where you need to identify subjects further away such as a driveway or a gate. Both are 4K, so the trade is field of view against pixel density.
Q: Do I need a separate power supply?
A: Not if your switch or NVR provides PoE at 48 to 55 volts. If it does not, the camera accepts DC12V 2A through a local adapter.
Q: Will it work with my existing NVR?
A: If the NVR is ONVIF compliant, generally yes. Tell us the NVR model before ordering and we will confirm the profile and stream settings.
Q: How much storage do I need for 4K?
A: With H.265 at a typical 4K bitrate, budget roughly 2 to 4 gigabytes per camera per day for continuous recording, less with motion-triggered recording. H.265 is what makes 4K practical on a modest disk.
Q: Can I view it from my phone?
A: Yes. The camera supports P2P viewing through the xmeye app, alongside ONVIF recording to a local NVR.
