Beschreibung

A Cat Does Not Scratch to Destroy. It Scratches to Own. Clawing is scent-marking, tension release and territorial maintenance performed in a single motion, and no amount of correction will train it out of an animal. The only variable a household actually controls is where that motion lands. The Cedar Column gives the instinct a dedicated address: a 46cm pine pillar wrapped in natural sisal, weighted at the base, close enough to the sofa that the sofa stops being interesting.

Pine was chosen because it is light enough to move with one hand and dense enough to stay upright when a cat launches from a chair onto the top platform. The sisal is the real working surface — tightly wound natural fibre that frays in the way a cat's claws expect, so the stroke feels satisfying and the furniture stays untouched. At 1.35kg with a wide 28cm footprint, the column resists tipping during the sideways pull that cats use to test a scratching surface before committing to it.

What turns a post into furniture is the second function. A built-in track ball rolls in its channel for the cat that prefers to bat rather than climb, and the spring feather gives a moving target for the ones that need pursuit. Both arrive pre-attached, which matters more than it sounds: toys that require assembly usually stay in the box. The whole column assembles by hand in minutes with no tools, and its slim 28cm profile fits the corner of a small flat where a full cat tree never would.

You are not buying a post. You are buying the sofa back.

Key Features

  • ✦ Natural sisal wrap wound tight enough to satisfy repeated clawing without shedding onto the floor.
  • ✦ Solid pine core with a wide 28cm base that resists the sideways pull cats use to test stability.
  • ✦ Integrated track ball plus spring feather toy, both pre-attached and ready on arrival.
  • ✦ 46cm height with a top platform for lounging after the scratching session ends.
  • ✦ Tool-free assembly — the column goes up by hand in minutes with the included manual.
  • ✦ Slim 28cm footprint suited to apartments, corners and rooms where a full cat tree will not fit.
  • ✦ Neutral wood tone that reads as furniture rather than pet equipment.

Where It Earns Its Place

This column is built for the household that has already lost one sofa and would prefer not to lose another. It works best placed beside the piece of furniture the cat currently favours, because a scratching post competes on proximity rather than preference. In a studio or one-bedroom flat the 28cm footprint tucks into the gap between a bookcase and a wall, and the 46cm height puts the top platform at a height a cat can reach from the floor without a running start. Multi-cat homes typically benefit from two columns placed in different rooms, since scratching is a territorial behaviour and one address rarely serves an entire household. For flat residents and renters, the tool-free assembly means the column moves between apartments without a toolkit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the scratching surface made of?

A: Natural sisal fibre wound around a solid pine core. Sisal is the material cats respond to most reliably because it frays under the claw in a way that keeps the stroke satisfying.

Q: Will it tip over when my cat jumps on it?

A: The 28cm base and 1.35kg total weight are designed to resist the sideways pull cats apply before they commit to a surface. It suits kittens and small to medium cats rather than very large breeds.

Q: How much assembly is required?

A: None beyond hand-tightening. The column assembles without tools in a few minutes and the manual is included in the box.

Q: Do the toys come attached?

A: Yes. The track ball and spring feather arrive pre-attached, so the column is playable from the moment it is standing.

Q: Is it big enough for a full-sized cat?

A: At 46cm tall it is best suited to kittens and small to medium adults. Larger breeds generally need a taller post so the cat can stretch to full extension while clawing.

Q: Where should I put it?

A: Next to whatever the cat already scratches, or against a wall in the room where it spends most of its time. Proximity matters more than aesthetics when replacing a habit.

Q: Does the sisal shed onto the floor?

A: Natural sisal releases a small amount of fibre during the first weeks of heavy scratching. A quick vacuum around the base keeps it contained, and because the wrap is bound to the pine core it is not designed to be re-wrapped.

Q: My cat has never used a scratching post. Will it take to this one?

A: Most cats investigate a new vertical surface within days, particularly when it stands beside the furniture they already target. A little catnip rubbed into the base shortens the adjustment period considerably.

Looks like furniture

The pine base actually looks decent in the living room, which I did not expect from a scratching post. Both toys came already attached so my cat used it the same evening it arrived. Getting a second one for the bedroom.

Stable, small footprint

I have a small flat so a full cat tree was never going to work. This fits in the corner beside the bookshelf and has not tipped once, even when my kitten launches at it from the chair. Assembly took about five minutes with no tools.

Sofa is finally safe

Placed it next to the arm of the couch my cat was destroying and she switched to the post within three days. The sisal is tightly wound and she goes at it hard. The track ball at the base keeps her busy after she is done scratching.
