Your Car Is Not Old. Its Software Is. A factory head unit from five years ago still drives, still navigates and still sounds fine, yet it cannot open an app store or stream a video. The Ambient Deck is a small black box that gives a wired-CarPlay car an open Android 13 layer without touching the dashboard.
Inside runs a Qualcomm SM6115 processor with Adreno 610 graphics, paired with 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, expandable by TF card to 512 GB. On top of that sits wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and a full Android 13 environment with the Play Store, so Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and Waze run on the existing screen. A built-in 4G module covers networking on the move, and phone hotspot or the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz WiFi radios cover the rest.
Positioning comes from GPS, Glonass and BeiDou together, holding a fix where a single constellation would drift among tall buildings. Installation is a plug-in job: the box connects through the car's existing USB or Type-C cable, and the small 82 mm square housing tucks away in the console. Note only that BMW head units are not supported.
No dashboard surgery, no new screen - just an Android brain behind the one you already own.

Application Scenarios
The Ambient Deck fits the driver with a wired-CarPlay car who wants video streaming, an app store and offline navigation on the factory screen, and the long-distance traveller who would rather mount a TF card of media than rely on mobile data. It also suits older vehicles adding modern infotainment without a head-unit replacement, provided the car is not a BMW and already offers wired CarPlay or Android Auto.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will it work in my car?
A: It works in any car with factory wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto through the USB or Type-C cable. BMW models are not supported.
Q: Do I lose the original system?
A: No. The box adds a wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and Android 13 layer on top of the existing head unit - nothing is disassembled.
Q: How much storage is there?
A: Choose 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage, or 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, and add a TF card up to 512 GB for offline media.
Q: How does it connect to the internet?
A: A built-in 4G module provides networking on the move, and it can also join a phone hotspot or 2.4/5.8 GHz WiFi network.
Q: Can I watch video on the screen?
A: Yes. The Android 13 environment runs the Play Store, so Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and similar apps install directly on the head unit.
Q: Which phones are supported?
A: iPhone 6 and above on iOS 10 or newer, and Android phones running Android 11 or above.
Q: Does it work with a car that only has a USB port?
A: It needs factory wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto available through the port. A plain charging-only USB socket is not sufficient.
Q: Is installation reversible?
A: Yes. The box connects through the existing USB or Type-C cable, so removing it restores the car to its original state with no wiring changes.
Q: Can two phones connect at once?
A: One phone connects to CarPlay or Android Auto at a time, but switching between an iPhone and an Android device is straightforward.
How It Compares
The usual routes to video and apps in an older car are a windscreen-mounted tablet or a full head-unit swap. The tablet needs its own power, blocks the view and ignores the factory audio. A head-unit swap costs more than the car's infotainment is worth and risks the wiring. The Ambient Deck takes a third path: it plugs into the existing wired-CarPlay port and hands the factory screen an open Android 13 environment. Against a cheaper CarPlay adapter that only mirrors the phone, it adds an app store, built-in 4G, triple-constellation positioning and TF expansion. Against a factory Android head unit, it is a fraction of the cost and fully reversible.
