Beschreibung

Most cycling lights are switches with a battery. They turn on, they turn off, and they do exactly what you tell them, which is the problem. A driver closing at sixty kilometres an hour is not reading your intentions, they are reading your movement, and a static red light gives them nothing to read. This one watches for the deceleration and brightens on its own, so the light says what the bike is doing rather than what the rider remembered to press.

The sensor logic is the point of the product. Brake sensing detects the deceleration signature of a slowing bike and fires a brighter output for a short burst, then returns to the running pattern. That burst is the same instinct a car's third brake light serves: it converts an ambiguous shape into an unambiguous event. Four lighting modes cover the rest, from a steady low output for dusk riding to a flash pattern for daylight, adjustable through two to four brightness steps depending on the mode.

The hardware is deliberately unremarkable, which is what you want on a seatpost. An ABS and polycarbonate body at about twenty-two grams, IPX6 sealing against road spray and rain, and a 3.7 volt 260 mAh polymer cell giving seven to sixteen hours depending on mode. Operating range is minus ten to plus sixty degrees celsius, which covers a winter commute and a summer trunk alike. Mounting is on the seatpost, and the whole unit is small enough that it does not need to be removed to avoid attention.

The warranty is stated at 365 days, and that is worth noting because rear lights fail at the seal, not at the electronics. IPX6 means jets of water from any angle, which is more than most commutes produce, but it is not submersion. Charging with a wet port is the way these units die, and it is a rider behaviour rather than a manufacturing defect. Dry the port, then charge, and the light will outlast the bike it was bought for.

Being seen is passive. Being understood is a signal.

Where it belongs

It goes on a commuter first, because that is where brake sensing earns its keep: traffic that closes behind you at junctions, and a light that speaks up when you slow without warning. It goes on a road bike second, for group rides where a rider behind needs to read your deceleration before they see your hand. It goes on a cargo or e-bike third, where the extra mass makes stopping distances longer and the brake signal more valuable. It is not a replacement for a front light, and it is not bright enough to be the only light on an unlit road at night. It is the light that tells the traffic behind you what is about to happen.

Questions buyers actually ask

Q: How does brake sensing work?

An accelerometer detects the deceleration signature of a slowing bike and triggers a brighter output for a short burst before returning to the running pattern. It does not require any wiring to the brakes and works on any bike it is mounted to.

Q: How long does the battery actually last?

Seven to sixteen hours depending on mode and brightness. The brake burst shortens that slightly in stop-start traffic, since those bursts draw more current than a steady output.

Q: Will it survive rain?

IPX6 covers rain, road spray and jets of water from any angle. It is not designed for submersion. The usual failure is charging with a wet port, so dry the port before plugging in.

Q: Is it bright enough for daylight?

The flash modes are visible in daylight and that is their purpose. The 100 to 300 lumen range is a rear light rather than a road-illuminating front light, so pair it with a front light for unlit roads.

Q: Does it fit any seatpost?

It mounts to a seatpost and the bracket covers standard diameters. Aero seatposts on some time trial bikes are the exception, where a rubber shim or an alternative mount is needed.

Q: How do I know the charge state?

The unit indicates power state through its light behaviour. Practically, charge it after roughly a week of commuting rather than waiting for a low battery indication, since a rear light that dies mid-ride is the one failure you cannot see.

Rear light, not a front light

Does exactly what a tail light should, and the daylight flash is visible in traffic. It will not light an unlit road, so pair it with a front light. Dry the port before charging, that is the only care it needs.

Twenty two grams, disappears on the post

Small enough that I leave it on the bike in the city. IPX6 has survived a week of wet commuting, and the seal is still tight. Seven hours on the flash mode is realistic from what I have measured.

Brake sensing actually fires

Rode behind a car that stopped suddenly and the light brightened on its own before I touched anything. That is the feature I bought it for and it works. Four modes cover dusk and rain without fiddling.
